Roundup: Bassitt advances in 400 hurdles at US Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. — Bluffton High School graduate Trevor Bassitt advanced to the 400 meter hurdles final at the U.S. Outdoor Championships.

Bassitt had the third-fastest time with a personal best of 48.38 seconds during Saturday’s semifinals behind first place Rai Benjamin (47.93) and runner-up Khallifah Rosser (48.34).

The 400 hurdles final is scheduled for 4:48 p.m. (EDT) today.

Stechshulte advances

to Derby championships

MANSFIELD — Columbus Grove’s Autumn Stechshulte qualified for the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championships by winning the Super Stock Division at the North Central derby.

She advanced last year as the Stock Division champ. This year’s world championships are scheduled for July 23 in Akron.

Summerfest 5K

SPENCERVILLE — Larry Oakman was the race winner in 17 minutes, 34.8 seconds. Lillee Stewart was top female finisher with an ninth-place overall effort in 22:13.4.

Renee Conley set a course record of 27:56.4 for women ages 50-54. Men setting age group records included Derek Webb (30-34, 21:05.5), Dustin Schaadt (40-44, 20:47.1), Eric Bontrager (45-49, 19:25.5), Greg Herron (60-69, 23:10.8) and Tom Striggow (70 & older, 28:04.9).

Henry Henschen was the 1 mile run winner in 7:09.4.

Country Fest 5K

MARIA STEIN — Zach Wiedeman was the race winner in 17:15. Fifth-place Ashley Lefeld was the top female finisher in 18:44.3.

MILLER CITY — Ottawa-Glandorf defeated Leipsic 9-2 and Miller City topped Holgate 10-0. O-G plays Fort Jennings at 1 p.m. and host Miller City takes on Kalida at 3:15 p.m. Sunday.
