Reds drop final spring training game to Guardians, 10-7

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — The Cincinnati Reds lost their final spring training game this year 10-7 to the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday.

The Guardians scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning and three in the ninth inning to get the win.

Spencer Steer had a home run and a double, Christian Encarnacion-Stroud had a home run and Mat Nelson also went deep for the Reds.

But Cincinnati’s pitching was not nearly as good on Sunday as its offense. All five runs in the sixth inning were charged to Justin Wilson and Alexis Diaz allowed the three ninth-inning runs.

Jose Ramirez, Andres Giminez and Daniel Schneeman blasted home runs for the Guardians, who totaled 15 hits.

Cincinnati was 11-15 in spring training games and Cleveland is 14-13 with games against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday and Tuesday still on their spring schedule.

The Reds will open their regular season at home against the Washington Nationals on Thursday. The Guardians’ first regular season game will be at Oakland on Thursday night.
