Roundup: Lima Senior opens season with road win

TROTWOOD — Lima Senior opened up its 2023-24 girls basketball season with a hot first half and cruised on to a 45-33 win at Trotwood-Madison on Wednesday.

The Spartans (1-0) jumped out to a 31-13 halftime lead and never relented. Maisie Strawser led the way with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including 6 of 7 from inside the 3-point arc. Anya James added 12 points.

Kaydance Holbrook had a team-high eight rebounds, while Mallory Gipson added six rebounds.

Allen East 56, Arlington 38

BLUFFTON — Rilynn Jones scored her 1,000th career point as Allen East earned a trip to the championship of the Bluffton McDonald’s Holiday Tournament.

Savanna Brooks led all scorers with 26 points, while Jones added 15 points.

Allen East will play in the championship game at 7:15 p.m. Friday against Bluffton.

Arlington will play in the consolation game at 6 p.m. Friday against Cory-Rawson. Amelia Alexander led the Red Devils (0-1) with 10 points.

Bluffton 53, Cory-Rawson 50

BLUFFTON — Ayla Grandey scored 28 points as Bluffton earned a spot in the championship of the Bluffton McDonald’s Holiday Tournament.

The Pirates (1-0) rallied back from a 45-38 deficit entering the fourth quarter with a 15-5 run in the final stanza to clinch the win. Macy Schaadt added another 13 points for the Pirates.

Bluffton will play in the championship game at 7:15 p.m. Friday against Allen East.

Cory-Rawson will play in the consolation game at 6 p.m. Friday against Arlington. Morgan McVetta led the Hornets (0-1) with 20 points, while Chelci McVetta added 10 points.
