Boys basketball: Ottawa-Glandorf’s White signs with Ohio State

OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf senior Colin White signed his national letter of intent Wednesday afternoon to play basketball at The Ohio State University. White was surrounded by his family and teammates in the Ottawa-Glandorf media center to celebrate the occasion.

“Once I committed, I always knew that I was going to sign there was no doubt for me,” White said. “It feels good to sign the paper and be officially a Buckeye.”

Schools White, who has been a varsity starter at O-G since his freshman year, chose the Buckeyes over included Northwestern, Cincinnati. Butler and Texas Christian. White said that in the end his decision was a perfect fit.

“It was a tough choice,” White said. “The Buckeye offer came late, it was a tough choice, but I think I came up with the right decision.”

The future Buckeye has led O-G to consecutive state appearances. On Jan. 14, he joined the 1,000 point club and passed his coach, Tyson McGlaughlin, on the Titans’ all-time scoring list.

“It’s phenomenal, it’s a credit to him to get an opportunity to play at the next level,” McLaughlin said. “No matter what level it is, it’s a credit to the kid and his work ethic for him to be in the spotlight and to be able to perform the way he has over the years.”

White averaged 21 points a gamehis junior season. The Titans went 25-4 while he picked Western Buckeye player of the year for the second straight year.

“They said that I could come in and make an immediate impact,” White said. “I have the body and the size and the basketball knowledge. I can play in the system and play my game. You always have that dream when you are younger; I am super excited.”
