Catcher Maile remains with Reds

CINCINNATI — Former Cleveland Guardians catcher Luke Maile has re-signed with the Cincinnati Reds for the 2024 season.

Maile’s one-year contract with the Reds guarantees him $3.5 million, according to MLB.com. The 32-year-old veteran served as the Reds’ backup catcher during the 2023 season, his first with the team. He played in 74 games for Cincinnati last season, hitting .235 with a career-high six home runs and a .699 OPS.

“He was great with all of our guys,” Reds President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall said. “Staff loved him, players loved him. He was a really good fit. He’s a tremendous guy.”

The Reds also announced Maile’s re-signing on social media Thursday.

“Luke’s stayin’ home!!,” the Reds wrote in a tweet.

Prior to joining Cincinnati last season, the former University of Kentucky standout played for the Cleveland Guardians during the 2022 MLB season. Maile appeared in 74 games during his one-year stint in Cleveland, hitting .221 with three home runs and a .627 OPS.

Maile has also played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Tampa Bay Rays. Across his eight-year MLB career, Maile is hitting .212 with 19 home runs and a .603 OPS.
