St. John’s Ottoville, Miller City, P-G, Minster, St. Henry among teams headed to golf districts

Ottoville won the boys Division III sectional title at Pike Run on Thursday with a team total of 312, one shot ahead of runner-up Miller City.

Freshman Evan Altenburger led Ottoville with a 75. Keaton Schnipke had a 77, Michael Turnwald shot 78, Blake Kortokrax shot 82 and Jace Langhals had a 90.

Miller City’s low round was a 75 by Andrew Weis. Brayden Niese shot 78, Will Otto and Jesse Lammers shot 80 and Jude Otto had an 84.

Ottoville, Miller City and third-place Wayne Trace, which had a team total of 323, advanced to the district as a team. Kalida was fourth at 324.

Kalida’s Connor Nartker shot 72 to advance to the district tournament as an individual. Leipsic’s Brevin Brandt, who shot 74, is going to the district, and so is Patrick Henry’s Jaxson Guelde got the final individual spot with a 75. Guelde won a one-hole playoff over Kalida’s Jack Stechschulte, who shot 75.

Division III

at Colonial Golfers Club

Minster (308), Delphos St. John’s (322) and St. Henry (336) claimed the three district qualifying spots in the Division III boys golf sectional at Colonial Golfers Club on Thursday.

Louis Magoto shot a 71 to lead Minster and Bryce Prenger had a 74. Collin Feathers’ 73 was St. John’s low round. Tyce McClain shot a 76, Parker Will had an 85, Ashton Milligan had an 88 and Jackson Kill shot 90. Ty Post’s 75 led St. Henry.

Lima Central Catholic did not send a full team to the sectional but the Thunderbird’s Parker Judy shot 75 to become one of the three individual golfers not on a qualifying team who will move on to the district. Marion Local’s Marcus Rethman, who finished with a 73, and Delphos Jefferson’s Isaac Gallmeier, who shot a 76, were the other top individual qualifiers.

Division III

at Sycamore Springs

Pandora-Gilboa finished second in the Division III boys golf sectional at Sycamore Springs to qualify for next week’s district tournament.

The Rockets had a team total of 349, which was two strokes behind sectional champion Arcadia and two shots ahead of third-place Carey.

Owen Huffman led Pandora-Gilboa with a 78. Zach Neuenschwander shot and 85 and Aiden Harris shot an 86. Camden Verhoff had a 100 and Chase Dettrow had a 117.

Hardin Northern finished ninth with a team score of 409 and Ada was tenth at 418.

Division II

Coldwater’s Ben Giere was medalist with a 70 at Moose Landing and advanced to the district tournament as an individual along with Van Wert’s Keaton Foster (74), Bath’s Braden Binkley (78) and St. Marys’ Brennan Steger (78). No area school advanced as a team.

BOYS SOCCER

St. Marys 8, Greenville 0

Cody Birt, Aiden Jeffries, Bradey Triplett, Jake Ackroyd, Cohen Craft, Bronson Engel and Noah White scored goals for the Roughriders (10-1-1). Cadyn Neargarder had three assists and Doug Ruppert, Will Menker and and Triplett had one.

There were no keeper saves. The shutout was shared by Cayden Ballweg and Landon Klaus.

Ottawa-Glandorf 3, Bluffton 1

Austin Hovest, Isaac Macke and Jayden Oliver scored O-G’s goals. Theo Andreas had Bluffton’s only goal. Zac Ruhe had five saves for the Titans (4-6-1). Bluffton is 4-6-2.

Kalida 3, Elida 1

Landon Verhoff, Caden Looser and Braylon Smith scored Kalida’s goals. Owen Siebeneck, Braylon Smith and Jacob Siebeneck had assists. Kalida is 5-4-3 overall this season.

GIRLS SOCCER

Ottawa-Glandorf 7, Celina 0

O-G moved to 13-0 on the season with its Western Buckeye League win over Celina.

Makenna Siefker scored three goals and Myka Aldrich, Carlie Brinkman, Bri Douglas and Mackenzie Recker also scored goals. Recker had three assists and Marissa Brown had one. Karsyn Erford had a save.

Elida 1, Wapakoneta 0

JoJo Knight had the goal for Elida, which had five shots. Wapakoneta had three shots on goal. Leah Ramirez had three saves for Elida (9-3-1, 4-2-1 WBL).

Columbus Grove 1, Continental 0

Lauryn Auchmuty scored on a free kick in the first half for the only goal of the match. Continental had 10 shots on goal compared to three for Columbus Grove but goal keeper Erienne Heffner had 10 saves.

Ada 6, Cory-Rawson 0

In a match from Wednesday night, Ada’s Ella Marshall scored three goals, which made her the career scoring leader at Ada with 47 goals and also gave her the single season record of 18 goals. Katie Sizemore tied an Ada record with her third shutout of the season.

VOLLEYBALL

Leipsic 3, Bluffton 0

Leipsic won in closely contested straight games 27-25, 27-25 and 26-24. Leipsic is 14-2 overall and 4-1 in the NWC. Bluffton is 13-4 and 3-2 in the NWC.

Leaders for Bluffton were: Alivia Jones (14 kills, 4 blocks, 11 digs, 2 aces), Danaysia Danzy (11 kills, 15 digs, 2 aces),

Jaelynn Siefer (3 aces), Karmyn Brough (28 assists, 3 aces), Samantha Hazelton (16 digs).

Bluffton leaders were: Ayla Grandey (12 kills), Gracie Yarnell (30 assists, 2 aces), Avery Talavinia (18 digs, 3 aces), Olivia Siferd (5 blocks).

Crestview 3, Allen East 0

Crestview raised its record to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in the Northwest Conference with a 25-21, 25-10, 25-10 win over Allen East.

Leading the way for the Knights: Kaci Gregory (14 of 15 serving, 3 aces), Adelyn Figley (17 of 17 serving, 1 ace, 14 kills), Josie Kulwicki (17 of 17 serving), Cali Gregory (23 assists, 2 blocks), Ellie Kline (10 digs), Haley McCoy (3 blocks).

Celina 3, Bath 0

Celina defeated Bath in 3 sets 25-16, 25-19 and 25-17. Haley Kizer had 43 assists, 16 digs and 4 aces. Allison Schwieterman had 18 digs and reach 1,000 digs for her career.

Mylee Sapp had 18 kills and Ava Knapke has 12 kills.

Miller City 3, McComb 0

Miller City (16-1) won in straight sets 25-22, 25-15, 25-21. Morgan Verhoff had 13 kills and 18 digs. Savanna Niese had 6 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces and 20 digs.

Also, Cloe Kuhlman had 6 kills, Josie Otto had 28 assists and 13 digs, and Libby Erford had 20 digs and 3 aces.

Ada 3, Delphos Jefferson 0

Ada won in straight sets, 25-11, 25-21 and 25-19.

Tessa Griffith had- 9 kills and 2 aces, Daicy Robinson had 8 kills and 2 blocks, Anna Conley had 7 kills and 3 blocks, Jenna Bassitt had 34 digs and Autumn Andreasen had 26 assists, 14 digs and three aces.

Lima Senior 3, Toledo Start 0

In a match from Wednesday night, the Spartans won 26-24, 25-20 and 25-12 to remain undefeated in the Toledo City League. Lima Senior is 8-8 overall and 6-0 in the TCL.

Mallory Gipson had 22 assists and 4 aces, Makayla Redd had 10 kills and Ali VanMeter had 4 digs.

Shawnee 3, St. Marys 0

The Indians won 25-19, 25-20, 25-12.

Kelly Cooper had 18 kills, Karleigh Hutchins had 17 kills, Addie Maxwell finished with 40 assists and Grace Freiberger, who has committed to play for Toledo, added 20 digs for Shawnee.

Girls Tennis

WBL Tournament

The early rounds of the girls Western Buckeye League tennis tournament on Thursday produced semifinals on Saturday at UNOH which followed the seeding of the tournament pretty closely.

One semifinal at No. 1 singles will match No. 1 seed Ava Patel (Shawnee) against No. 4 seed Isabel Thobe (Celina) and the other semifinal will have No. 2 Anne Oliver (Bath) playing against No. 3 seed Mandy Burenga (Van Wert).

At No. 2 singles No. 1 Rose Kattapalli (Shawnee) will play No. 5 seed Kelsie Carlson (Bath) in one semifinal and No. 2 Maggie Schmiedebusch (Ottawa-Glandorf) and No. 3 Elisabeth Good (Wapakoneta) will play for the trip to the finals.

At No. 3 singles No. 1 Elise Muether (Celina) take on No. 4 Kierra Siefring (Wapakoneta) and No. 2 Abby Campbell (Elida) will play No. 6 Myah Bockrath (Ottawa-Glandorf).

In first doubles, No. 1 Jenova DeBrosse and Brailynn Murphy (Shawnee) will play No. 4 Tea Sibert and Allyson Harnishfeger (Bath) in one semifinal. The other semifinal will be No. 2 Lauren Niese and Jericha Walls (Ottawa-Glandorf) playing against No. 3 Alexa Rittner and Alyssa Richie (Defiance).

In second doubles, No. 1 Victoria Gerencser and Maria Moreira-Chavez (Defiance) will play Olivia Foster and Briley Foster (Bath) in one semifinal and the other semifinal will be No. 2 Savannah Heckman and Sarah Ellerbrock (Ottawa-Glandorf) against No. 3 Kate Eley and Brooklyn Mowery of Wapakoneta.
