High school football: LCC cruises past Elmwood

LIMA — Lima Central Catholic brought a 2-3 record to Spartan Stadium to play an Elmwood team that had not scored in its last two games and a 1-4 record. Lima Central Catholic dominated play on both sides of the ball, defeating Elmwood 49-18.

Lima Central Catholic took a 6-0 lead with 9:15 to play on a Carson Parker touchdown. Matt Quatman added the extra point to make the lead 7-0. Then the wheels came off the Royals bus. A fumble recovery by Caden Falke led to another Lima Central Catholic score on a 12-yard pass play to Mylon Cowens with a Quatman extra point resulted in a 14–0 score with 8:58 left in the first quarter. Elmwood had two turnovers in its first three plays when Carson Parker intercepted an Owen Traxler pass and ran it into the end zone for a pick 6, running the first quarter score to 21–0 with 8:08 left in the first quarter.

LCC coach Scott Palte was proud of his team, “I give our kids credit for coming and taking advantage of opportunities and getting up on them early, getting out to a big lead and kind of coasted from there.”

A fumble on a kickoff led to another LCC touchdown by Mikey Quatman with 7:11 left in the first quarter, making the score 27–0.

“Everyone got to play today,” Palte said, “It was a great effort and I’m really proud of our guys. I’m happy to have all our guys practice all week; they practice hard and deserve opportunities to play. Everyone got in there, played real hard. I’m proud of each and every kid.”

Lima Central Catholic pushed the score to 35–0 before Elmwood scored a touchdown to make the score 35-6. A Carson Parker touchdown with 10:06 in the second quarter raised the score to 41-6. A Matt Quatman touchdown with 3:58 left in the first half and the extra point by Brevan Stolly ended the Lima Central Catholic scoring at 49. Elmwood’s Brennan Hiser scored a touchdown with 40 seconds in the half to bring the score to 49 to 12.

The second half was played under a running clock. Elmwood Micah Oliver provided the only scoring in the second half with a 15-yard touchdown pass and run.

Lima Central Catholic was blessed with great field position throughout the entire game putting the Elmwood defense under pressure most of the game making it difficult for Elmwood to mount a comeback.

Lima Central Catholic improves their record to 3-3. All the remaining regular season games will be played at Spartan Stadium.
