Former St. Marys boys basketball coach Johnides passes away

Former St. Marys boys head basketball coach Jeff Johnides has passed away.

After previously coaching at Shawnee, Johnides was the head coach from 1987 until 1998, making him the longest tenured head varsity basketball coach in school history.

Johnides’ 1992-93 team reached the Division II state semifinals and the Roughriders won three straight sectional championships from 1992-94. He finished his St. Marys career with a record of 108-133, giving him the second most victories in program history after being passed by Dan Hegemier.

The St. Marys squads the 11 seasons before his arrival went 59-169.
