Roundup: Columbus Grove boys win cross country invitational

CELINA — The Columbus Grove boys won the small school division during Saturday’s Celina Rotary Cross Country Invitational.

The Bulldogs finished with 45 points followed by Marion Local (60), Ansonia (81), Parkway (114), Coldwater (116), Crestview (124) and Wayne Trace (169).

Grove’s Luke Ellerbrock was the race winner with teammate Evan Pitts finishing third. Coldwater’s Mason Ayers (fourth), Marion Local’s Trey Goettemoeller (seventh), Parkway’s Tyler Rowen (eighth), Grove’s Bryce Bonifas (ninth) and Marion Local’s Lucas Broering (10th) also finished in the top 10.

Boys small division race individual results, team scores

Host Celina (106) and New Bremen (119) were fourth and fifth respectively St. Marys (152) was seventh and Elida (315) was 11th in the boys large school competition behind team champ Bryan (53).

New Bremen’s Zach Wiedeman was second behind race winner Xander Fackler from Bryan. Celina’s Colin Buening and Kaleb Dameron were third and sixth respectively and New Bremen’s Elijah Cummins was 10th.

Parkway (33) won the girls small division team competition followed by Coldwater (67), Columbus Grove (72), Marion Local (76), Crestview (112).

Columbus Grove’s Lily Montgomery finished third behind race winner Sarah Maple from Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian’s Sarah Maple. Coldwater’s Audrey Alig, Parkway’s Amanda Barrett and Christina Tong, Columbus Grove’s Sarah Kamphaus, New Knoxville’s Ariyah Pfenning, Marion Local’s Josie Bruns and Parkway’s Paige Williamson finished fourth through 10th respectively.

Girls small division race individual results, team scores

New Bremen (114) was third, Celina (126) and St. Marys (168) were fifth and sixth respectively and Elida (207) was ninth behind team champ Fort Loramie (24) in the girls large division competition.

Celina’s Jennalee Dameron was third behind race winner Cammille Borchers from Fort Loramie. New Bremen’s Riley Suchland was seventh.

Bob Schul Invitational

WEST MILTON — In the Division I/II boys race, Shawnee’s Noah Williams finished second behind race winner Curtis Fowler from Middletown. Wapakoneta’s Axton Fosnaugh finished fourth.

Shawnee (202 points) finished eighth and Wapak (265) was 11th behind team champ Madeira (108).

In the boys D II/III race, Fort Recovery’s Trevor Heitkamp was second behind race winner Asher Long from Covington. Minster’s Jack Grieshop (fourth), Ryan Halpin (fifth) and Nick Prenger (ninth) also finished in the top 10. Minster (175) finished fifth behind team champ West Liberty-Salem (69).

In the girls D I/II race, Wapak’s Kenzie Schneider was ninth behind race winner Grace Brown from Bellefontaine. Wapak (199) was fifth and Shawnee (269) was 12th behind team champ Oakwood (66).

Shawnee defeated Parkway 25-22, 25-18 in the championship match.

The Indians opened with a 25-7, 25-10 victory against Pandora Gilboa and then defeated South Adams; 25-15, 25-13

Parkway started with a 25-16 25-10 win against Paulding and then topped Ottoville 25-16 25-12

Brittyn Bruns had 22 kills , Paige Stephenson had 13 kills , Bryn Schoenleben had 28 assists, Paige Stephenson had 20 assists, Brittyn Bruns had 18 digs and Emmery Temple had 13 digs on the day for Parkway.

Elida fell 25-23, 25-17 to South Adams and 23-25, 25-19, 25-15 to Pandora-Gilboa before defeating Paulding 25-15, 23-25, 25-15.

Against South Adams, Addysen Sneary had seven kills and 10 assists, Delaney Miller had 12 digs and Brianna Smith had five kills .

Against P-G, Miller had 33 digs, Haley Kristoff had 20 digs and nine kills , Sneary had 32 assists and Abby Kristoff had 20 kills .

Ottoville defeated Celina 21-25, 25-23, 26-24 before falling to Parkway and then South Adams 25-20, 25-13.

Against Celina, Carly Thorbahn had 18 kills and 16 digs, Erica Thorbahn had 38 assists and six digs, Kendall Schnipke had nine kills and Alivia Hilvers had four aces and 12 digs.

The Wildcats defeated Bluffton 25-18, 22-25, 26-24 and Riverdale 25-16, 25-3.
