Sautter steps down as Columbus Grove’s boys varsity basketball coach

COLUMBUS GROVE — Chris Sautter has decided to step down as Columbus Grove’s head boys varsity basketball coach after seven seasons.

“I want to continue coaching, but just do not want to do all the things that go along with being the head coach anymore,” Sautter said in an email to LimaOhio.com. “I feel truly blessed to have done it for 21 years.”

Before arriving at Grove, Sautter had coached at Perry and Ada, where the Bulldogs reached the Division IV state semifinals in 2009.

While at CG, Sautter compiled a 115-60 overall record and was 60-30 and 41-16 in the Putnam County League and Northwest Conference respectively. He won a PCL in 2020 and NWC championships in 2-19, 2020 and 2021.

Grove’s postseason achievements under Sautter included reaching the Division IV state championship game in 2021 before falling 60-44 to Botkins in the final and going 26-0 and reaching the D-IV regional finals before having the remainder of the 2020 season halted due to COVID-19.

The Bulldogs also made the regional semifinals in 2019, reached the district finals in 2022 and won a sectional title in 2018.

Sautter is expected to remain at Columbus Grove in a teaching role.
