Tucker leaves Perry

Clay Tucker, who has coached Perry the last two seasons, has taken a position as special assistant for player development at Southern Utah according to the school’s website.

The Perry graduate finished 11-13 and 6-1 in the Northwest Central Conference last year and in his first season with the Commodores went 19-6 and 7-0 with an conference title.

KALIDA — Kalida’s Jaden Smith went 2 for 2 with a double and picked up the win in relief, going two innings, giving up two hits, while striking out one and walking none. Colin Hoffman opened the game, going five innings, surrendering four hits while striking out one and walking one. Carson Klausing went 1 for 3 with the game-winning RBI. For Lincolnview, Dane Ebel drove in a run and Brandon Renner went 2 for 3.

Ottawa-Glandorf 4, Archbold 3

ARCHBOLD — Ottawa-Glandorf’s Kaleb Yoder went 2 for 3 with a run and Colin White was 2 for 4 with a run. Jordan Metzger drove in a run. Titan hurler Mitchell Schroeder got the win, going six innings, giving up five hits while fanning three and walking two.

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s Jackson Ervin tossed a no hitter as he fanned 12 in four and two-third innings of work.

Paulding 2, Bluffton 1

PAULDING — Paulding’s Kane Jones tossed a no-hitter as he fanned eight and walked four in seven innings of work. Bluffton’s Kerry Wright scored a run.

Perry’s Brody Douce went 1 for 3 with 3 RBI and a run and Brady Shively went 2 for 3 with 3 runs and 2 RBI. Preston Evans drove in two runs and scored twice and Braylon Ardner drove in a run.

CELINA — Celina’s Zander Jones fired a complete game, scattering four hits and striking out five while walking one. At the plate, Brady Steinbrunner had a double.

CONVOY — Crestview’s Micaela Lugabihl went 2 for 3 with a home run, 3 RBI and two runs scored and Katie Sawmiller went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and two run scored. Megan Mosier went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and Oliva Heckler and Laci Mcoy drove in runs. For Miller City, Chelsea Wilhelm went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run and Taylor Wilhelm went 2 for 3 with 2 runs and an RBI. Taylor Michel and Samantha Demuth drove in runs.

MIDDLE POINT — Lincolnview’s Taylor Post struck out seven and walked one while scattering four hits over five innings. At the plate, Post had a home run and drove in three and S. Longstretch went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and a run. Alllie Miller went 3 for 3 with 2 runs and an RBI.

ROCKFORD — Parkway’s Meg Henkle went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run and Avery White drove in two runs.

ONU players honored

ADA — Ohio Northern senior Jack Hutchins (Bright, Ind./East Central) and sophomore Andrew Stechschulte (Findlay) headline a list of six Polar Bears earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference recognition in baseball for the 2023 season in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches.

Hutchins and Stechschulte were named to the All-OAC First Team at pitcher and catcher, respectively.

Freshman first baseman Chase Armstrong (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) and sophomore pitcher Blake Altaffer (Montpelier) earned Second Team accolades, and senior pitcher Tim Knapschaefer (Maria Stein/Marion Local) and junior outfielder Logan Stevens (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) were Honorable Mention selections.
