Roundup: Shawnee finishes 9-0 in WBL boys tennis dual matches

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee defeated Van Wert 5-0 Thursday to finish 9-0 in Western Buckeye League boys tennis dual matches. The Indians also improved to 15-0 overall.

Singles players Gabe Burke, Mason Stahl and Mac Davis and the doubles teams of Salah Mohammed and Shashank Chanamolu and Jackson Carpenter and Mason Latham all won.

LIMA — Singles players Keegan Halliday and Alex Bennett won for Lima Senior. The doubles teams of Nate Niemeyer and Cole Reinhart and Noah Wilson and Chayse Helmig won for LCC. Lima Senior’s James Sturgeon won his singles match by default.

St. Marys 4, Sidney 1

ST. MARYS — Singles players Cody Birt and Bradey Triplett and the doubles teams of Jaxton Spees and Aiden Jeffries and Logan Compton and Reese Triplett all won for St. Marys.

Jeven Henderson had two hits and two RBI, Jebadiah Mcgue had a triple and three RBI, Linkyn Furer had two hits, including a double, and an RBI and Wade Gamble had a hit and two RBI. Hewitt Wright had Temple Christian’s hit.

MILLER CITY — Winning pitcher Tommy Weis allowed no earned runs and six hits while striking out nine in six innings. Elida’s Ryan McGue allowed one earned run, two hits and three walks while striking out 10 in six innings. Tyler Carter had a pair of hits also for Elida.

OTTAWA — Winning pitcher Zach Greber and Max Baumstark combined to allow one earned run, six hits and two walks while striking out nine in seven innings. O-G’s Brad Maag allowed no earned runs, three hits and no walks while striking out three in five innings.

Nick Steinbrenner had three hits, including a double, for Celina. Grant Leopold had two hits, including a double, and Jordan Metzger had a hit and an RBI for Ottawa-Glandorf.

BLUFFTON — Winning pitcher Tyler Cupples allowed one earned run, six hits and a walk while striking out three in seven innings. Landen Worcester had two hits and an RBI and Braeden Jordan had a hit and an RBI also for the Pirates. Carter Ringwald and Evan Osting each had a hit and an RBI for Spencerville.

FORT RECOVERY — Winning pitcher Brooklyn Osterloh allowed one earned run, four hits and a walk while striking out five in seven innings. She also had a hit and an RBI. Kaycie Albers had two hits, including a double, and three RBI and teammate Rylin Trego had a double and an RBI. Cali Wendel had a double and two RBI and Sophie Pearson doubled for Fort Recovery.

Ohio Wesleyan 3

ADA — The Ohio Northern got the offense going early and often, turning 16 hits into a win against Ohio Wesleyan at Wander Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 23-11 overall while dropping the Battling Bishops to 16-17.

Six of Northern’s 16 hits went for extra bases.

The Polar Bears got two home runs from Corey Jeanor and one each from Eric Anton and Derek Foe to go with a triple from Logan Stevens and a double from Corey McMann.

Stevens and Andrew Stechschulte (each finished with a team-high three hits on the day, and McMann and Foe had three RBI apiece.

Softball

Bluffton swept

BLUFFTON — Bluffton struggled to score runs in its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Manchester University. The Spartans showed out defensively in both contests, taking game one with a final score of 9-1 and shutting the home team out for a 3-0 win in the nightcap. The Beavers slid to 14-22 overall and their conference mark is now 3-11. MU upped its mark to 21-13 and 9-3 in the conference.

The home team was only able to put up one run on the afternoon which came in the sixth frame of game number one. Kayleigh Michael grounded out to second base, plating Julia Tegeder This made the score 4-1 but Manchester sealed things up with a five-run seventh to close things out.

Michael accounted for an RBI and Sydney Zinkon was 2-of-2 with the bat.
