ONU sweeps

ADA — Senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) recorded her 100th career hit Wednesday as the Ohio Northern softball team fell 6-3 and 6-5 in a doubleheader against Capital at the ONU Softball Field.

The Polar Bears fall to 19-13 overall and 9-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while the Comets improve to 14-14, 6-8.

In Game 2, a 2-RBI double from Motylinski, her 100th career hit, plated Elliott and Rosser to tie the score at 2-2 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.

With the score still tied, the Polar Bears found themselves with an opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the seventh with runners on second and third and just one out. But an attempted sac fly to left field off the bat of Rosser was just shallow enough for the throw home to get sophomore pinch runner Chandler Clark (Lima/Bath), sending the game to extra innings.

The Comets scored four runs in the top of the eighth to take control, but Northern stormed back in the bottom of the frame.

With one out, Elliott and Griffin both reached base via CU errors and were driven home by Motylinski and freshman Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta).

Bluffton wins two

ALBION, Mich. – The Bluffton University baseball team won two games on Wednesday. The lidlifter saw its first six innings of action on March 20 and it ended in an 11-7 victory before the Beavers moved to 18-12 on the season with a convincing 9-2 win in the final of a three-game series.

In a game that took 37 days and two states to complete, Bluffton held off Albion College by a final score of 11-7 on a beautifual Wednesday afternoon. The Beavers led 10-3 at Memorial Field when the game was suspended due to darkness back on March 20.

Bluffton jumped out quickly in game two, scoring two runs in the first inning and one more in the second in order to take 3-0 lead. After Diana drew a free pass in the first and his high school teammate, Jack Towell, launched a double down the right field line, Justin Mauer (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) picked them both up with a perfectly placed single to left center field, giving the Beavers a 2-0 lead after one.

The visitors scored once again in the second when Grant Hovest (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) grounded out, plating Francis who led off the frame with a triple.
