Roundup: Delphos Jefferson’s Mueller has five hits in softball victory

DELPHOS — Jefferson’s Carolyn Mueller had five hits, including two triples, and four RBI as the Wildcats defeated Continental 21-8 in high school softball Friday.

Kyrstin Moore had four hits and Jessa Rostorfer had three hits and four RBI also for Jefferson. Alli Scott tripled and Raegen Clemens and Kimberly Grant each doubled for Continental.

DEFIANCE — Ottawa-Glandorf graduate Tiffani Selhorst has been selected as the new athletic director at Defiance College. DC President Richanne C. Mankey announced that Selhorst will assume her role May 15.

Selhorst has more than 15 years of experience in collegiate coaching, recruiting and administration. In addition to collegiate experience, she has also coached at the high school, AAU and junior high levels.

Selhorst, a Wright State University grad, had been serving as Indiana University East women’s basketball head coach and senior women’s administrator. She also holds a master’s degree in recreation and sport sciences from Ohio University.

WEST LAFAYETTE — Ohio Northern is in second place out of nine teams after 27 holes of the 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at River Greens Golf Course.

The Polar Bears (71-11 overall), who are ranked No. 27 nationally by GolfStat.com, carded a 311-166—477 on the first 27 holes of the 72-hole tournament.

No. 28 Otterbein leads the team standings by 14 shots over ONU with a 311-152—463.

Individually for ONU, Grace Honigford is tied for second out of 44 players with a 27-hole score of 8-over par 116.

Marisa Alfes is tied for fifth with a 9-over par 117, Amelia Burger is seventh with a 13-over par 121, Isabella Orofino is ninth with a 15-over par 123 and Torrie Smith is tied for 26th with a 33-over par 141.

Otterbein’s Emma McGreal leads the individual standings with a 5-over par 112.

Mike Becraft Invitational

ADA — The Ohio Northern women lead the team standings after competing in the javelin and hammer throw on the first day of the invitational at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears (13-3 overall) scored 33 points to sit in first place of six teams. Manchester (Ind.) is second with 16 points, and Concordia (Mich.) is third with 14 points.

Tarrah BeVier led the way for ONU in the javelin, placing third with a mark of 31.35 meters. ONU assistant coach, and former Polar Bear student-athlete, Emily Richards placed second in a non-scoring position, posting a mark of 32.09 meters.

In the hammer throw, ONU’s Hannah Friend finished second with a mark of 42.01 meters.

ADA — Tommy Vetrovsky won the javelin throw to lead the Ohio Northern men, who are top the team standings.

The Polar Bears (12-4 overall) scored 24 points to sit in first place of six teams. Albion (Mich.) is second with 15 points, Tiffin is third with 12 points and Bluffton is fourth with 11 points.

Vetrovsky won the javelin with a mark of 41.14 meters. Bluffton’s Coen North was fourth at 36.6.

ONU’s Keegan Digby was third in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.21 meters and Bluffton’s Michael Lindhorst was fourth (48.03).
