Roundup: Ohio Northern starts OAC men’s lacrosse schedule with victory

ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern men’s lacrosse team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday with an 18-7 win against Marietta at Kehres Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-2 overall while dropping the Purple Raiders to 3-5 (0-1 OAC).

Tyler Ferguson led ONU with three goals, marking his third hat trick of the season.

Andrew Caliri, Nate Strauf, John Lynn and Sebastian Michaud added two goals each.

Lynn added two assists for a team-high four points.

LIMA — Alex Velasco had two hits and four RBI, Nolan Hull had three hits and two RBI and Erick Castro had a pair of hits and two RBI for the University of Northwestern Ohio.

LIMA — Tyler Grigalis had three hits and two RBI and Ben Jackson had a home run and four RBI for UNOH.

LIMA — Ohio Northern ran its winning streak to six matches in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener indoors at Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 9-3 overall while the Pioneers fall to 1-7 (0-2 OAC).

Northern opened Saturday’s match by sweeping all three doubles courts. Jenna Bell and Abby Cruser, Flo Sanchez and Julianne Sheldon and Lima Central Catholic graduate Cassie Stuber and Jamie Hurst all won.

The Polar Bears closed the match by winning five of the six singles encounters.

Hurst, Regan Landis. LCC grad Olivia Kesner, Victoria Santana and Marisa Petrunich triumphed for ONU.

LIMA — Ohio Northern began the defense of its 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title indoors at the Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-6 overall while the Pioneers fall to 3-6 (0-1 OAC).

Sam Sran and T.J. Schultz, Peyton Specht and Drew Swisher and Tristan Munteanu and Kavya Desai were doubles winners.

Munteanu, Specht, Desai, Swisher, Nico Rogel and Ada grad Isaac Spar were singles winners.

RICHMOND, Ky. — Bluffton University finished with a 327 total to be in sixth place following the opening round. St. Marys grad Clay Quellhorst and Nathan Eberle each shot 80 to pace the Beavers.

In the women’s event, Bluffton is third after posting a 357. Allie Waggener is third after leading the Beavers with an 85. One stroke back and in a tie for fifth is teammate Kiley Cline.
