Roundup: Elida’s Freeman named all-state special mention in girls basketball

COLUMBUS — Elida senior Addisyn Freeman received all-state special mention recognition in Division II girls basketball Tuesday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

Shawnee junior Grace Freiberger was named D-II honorable mention.

The Division I and II girls basketball All-Ohio teams were announced Tuesday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

The Division III and IV All-Ohio teams were announced Monday. Head to LimaScores.com to see those teams. The boys basketball All-Ohio teams will be announced today and Thursday.

No area players made the Division I teams. Head to 10B for the the complete D-I and D-II all-state teams.

The OPSWA was created in 1972 to support, promote and recognize coverage of high school sports across Ohio and is endorsed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

New Bluffton coach

Adam Burris has been named the new head varsity girls coach at Bluffton. Burris served as the Bath boys varsity coach for two seasons before stepping down in 2021.

Burris takes over after Eric Garmatter stepped down after 28 years of coaching basketball.

UNOH sweeps Lourdes

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio defeated Lourdes 7-6 and 26-10.

In the 7-6 win, Eliomar Otero had three hits and and RBI and Ben Jackson hit a home run and three RBI for the Racers.

In the 26-10 victory, Otero and teammate Erick Castro each had four hits and five RBI.

Otterbein 5, Bluffton 3

WESTERVILLE — Justin Maurer had three hits for Bluffton.

UNOH falls twice

RIO GRANDE — The Racers fell 4-1 and 5-1.

In the 4-1 game, Anna Ankney and Payton Albright each had two hits UNOH.

In the 5-4 contest, Ankney had a pair of hits and an RBI and teammate Dani Keighley had a hit and two RBI.
