Roundup: Barracudas’ Baumgartner finishes first in zone event

GENEVA — Lily Baumgartner won the girls 15 and older 400 yard individual medley to lead the Lima Barracudas during the first night of the YMCA Great Lakes Zone Championship competition Friday. Teammate Lizzy Sidener finished seventh in the same event.

Other Barracuda top 10 finishers included Angela Fronzaglia in the girls 11-12 200 IM (sixth), the girls senior 800 freestyle relay team of Addisyn Newman, Ciera Rupert, Morgan Schimmoeller and Baumgartner (seventh) and the boys senior 800 freestyle relay team of Jayden Welker, Jackson Bowlus, Mason Latham and Luke Wierwille (ninth).

Serbin named

to All-Star Team

ADA — Ohio Northern’s Brynn Serbin has been named to the 2023 NCAA Division III Women’s Collegiate All-Star Team presented by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

Serbin is one of 20 senior women’s basketball players from across the country selected to the team.

The all-stars were chosen by a committee composed of head women’s basketball coaches at NCAA Division III programs, all of whom are members of the WBCA. All players were nominated by WBCA member coaches.

The WBCA also named Serbin to its 10-member NCAA Division III All-America team for 2023.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — A five-run fourth inning propelled Ohio Northern to a win against St. Scholastica (Minn.) in the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park.

The Polar Bears improve to 7-4 on their spring break trip and 9-5 overall while dropping the Saints to 2-11 overall.

ONU got two hits apiece from Logan Stevens and Corey McMann.

SALEM, Va. — Ohio Northern fell to Roanoke (Va.) to close out its spring break trip at Kerr Stadium.

The Maroons improve to 5-4 overall while dropping the Polar Bears to 5-2.

Tyler Ferguson led the ONU offense with three goals, and Alex Reimer added three points on two goals and one assist. Riley O’Neal also had two goals for Northern.
