Roundup: Wapakoneta finishes 12th at state in girls bowling

COLUMBUS — The Wapakoneta girls high school bowling team finished 12th in the Division I state championship Friday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl. The top eight teams advanced to the championship round.

The Redskins finished with a 2,990 team total, 25 pins behind eighth-place Kettering Fairmont. Rylie Jeanneret led Wapak with a 535 three-game total to finish tied for 35th behind individual champ Danica Roseberry from Kettering Fairmont with a 661 total.

Bailey Van Meter (529) was 39th and Natalie Hefner (508) was 46th also for Wapakoneta. Van Wert’s Mercades Hammond (528) was 40th.

Lydia Manger had a two-game 346 for 78th and Aubryn Schnarre (154) and Alayna Spangler (144) each rolled single games to finish 100th and tied for 101st respectively also for Wapak.

Macedonia Nordonia defeated Fairmont in the finals.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — No. 16-ranked Ohio Northern saw its NCAA III tournament run end in the third round with a loss at No. 2 Transylvania at the Beck Center.

The Polar Bears end their season with a 25-5 record, while the Pioneers (30-0) advance to play No. 6 New York U. on Saturday night.

“I am so proud of what our team has accomplished,” ONU head coach Mark Huelsman said in a news release. “We accomplished so much for our campus community this year. The team put us back on the map at a national level in Division III. We had an impact on this campus that would not have happened that would not have heppened with our tournament run.”

Brooke Allen had 15 points, Fort Jennings graduate Kristen Luersman had seven points and 11 rebounds and Brynn Serbin grabbed 10 rebounds for ONU.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Jack Towell had four hits and three RBI and Jake Baumgartner finished with three hits and two RBI for Bluffton.

CLERMONT, Fla — Winning pitcher Carlie Hanes allowed two hits and a walk while striking out three in four innings. Alexis D’Alexander had a hit and three RBI.

CLERMONT, Fla. — Winning pitcher Jaylyn Mullenax allowed a hit and no walks while striking out four in five innings. Dani Keighley had two hits and two RBI.
