Roundup: Upper Scioto Valley opens NWCC play with victory against Waynesfield-Goshen

WAYNESFIELD — Upper Scioto Valley improved to 4-0 on the season with a 69-48 victory Friday night against Waynesfield-Goshen in the Northwest Central Conference opener for both teams.

Maddox Underwood (20), Drew Stephens (19) and Alex Sanders (10) each scored in double digits for USV. Jayden Elliott led W-G (1-1) with 18 points.

Carter Sudhoff (14), Dylan Smith (12) and Josh Henline (10) each scored in double digits for Spencerville. Wren Sheets (18), Gavin Etzler (13), Mitch Temple (13) and Nate Lichtle (10) reached double figures for Crestview.

ST. HENRY — The Cavaliers (1-2, 1-0 MAC) survived being outscored 7-3 in the fourth quarter. Evan Harlamert had 12 points and Brady Lefeld scored seven for Coldwater. Luke Beyke had 17 points and Evan Bowers scored seven for St. Henry (2-3, 1-1 MAC).

No. 13 nationally

ADA — Ohio Northern is ranked No. 13 nationally in the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s first dual team poll for 2022-23.

The Polar Bears (10-0 overall, 2-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) also moved up one spot to No. 19 in the second NWCA Tournament Poll.

In the tournament poll, ONU gained 14 points after being ranked No. 20 in the first poll Nov. 16.

Wartburg (Iowa) is ranked No. 1 and Augsburg (Minn.) is second in both polls.

Ohio Northern was ranked No. 15 in the preseason poll.

Individually, Jacob Reed remains ranked No. 2 at 141 pounds and Ada graduate Chase Sumner moved up one spot to No. 9 at 149 pounds.
