All-Northwest Central Conference

Waynesfield-Goshen’s Drew Breitigam was named the Northwest Central Conference player of the year and Upper Scioto Valley’s Kevin Smith received defensive player of the year honors. Waynesfield-Goshen head coach Shane Wireman was named top coach.

District 8 teams announced

Wapakoneta’s Kaleigh Palmer was named Division I, District 8 player of the year. Liberty-Benton’s Karis Willow was top player in Division II and St. Henry’s Mia Niekamp was the player of the year in Division III. New Bremen’s Melina Schrader was the top player in Division IV west and Leipsic’s Serenity Siefer was the top player in the east.

Division I coaches honored were Wapakoneta’s Megan Brown and Coldwater’s Nikki Etzler.

Division IV coaches honored were Anthony Chappel (Marion Local) and JaNahn Evans (Lincolnview), Kramer clained the sportsmanship, ethics and integrity nomination and New Bremen’s Lisa Thobe received the lifetime achievement award.

Coldwater’s Nikki Etzler was named coach of the year in Division I-III and New Bremen’s Diana Kramer was the top Division IV in the west and Leipsic’s Brent Newell snared the honors in the west.

The All-Star volleyball match for District 8 seniors will be at Coldwater High School on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. Each Divisional team will play each other one set to 25 totaling three sets for the evening. A list of the seniors playing the game appear in the Area results portion.

HCAC player of the week

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Senior Brady Welker (Delphos/Jefferson) has been named the Heartland Conference defensive player of the week for his work at Manchester on Saturday.

Welker finished with 10 stops and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned over 50 yards and was capped by a Bluffton touchdown as the Beavers defeated Manchester 46-44 in five overtimes on Saturday at North Manchester, Ind.
