Spartan spikers win sectional opener

Division I Sectionals

Lima Senior 3, Toledo Start 0

Lima Senior won 25-15, 25-7 and 25-13. Spartan Tillie Nelson had seven kills, 19 digs, four blocks and two aces and Ti’ana Spivey had seven kills and four aces. Mallory Gibson dished out 21 assists.

Division III Sectionals

Allen East 3, Paulding 0

HARROD — Allen East won 27-25, 25-15 and 25-18. Mustang Hannah Williams had 27 assists and Savana Brooks, Kenzie Koonts and Soraya Jackson all had eight kills. Ella Richardson had five kills and six aces.

Van Buren 3, Bluffton 1

VAN BUREN — Van Buren won 20-25, 25-14, 25-11 and 25-20. Bluffton’s Ayla Grandy had 14 kills and Kendall Stackhouse had nine kills. Gracie Yarnell had five kills, three aces and eight digs. Olivia Hobensack had 15 assists and Gracie Yarnell had 13 assists, three aces and eight digs.

All-WBL

Wapakoneta’s Kaleigh Palmer was named Western Buckeye League player of the year in the Western Buckeye League and Celina’s Phil Bange was tabbed the top coach.

Joining Palmer on teh first team were Brooklyn Bourne (Celina), Payton Bertke (Celina), Mya Ellerbrock (Ottawa-Glandorf), Brynn Clark (St. Marys), Kelly Cooper (Shawnee) and Grace Freiberger (Shawnee).

Making the second team were Ameila Lutz (Celina), Elizabeth Hoffman (Defiance), Addisyn Freeman (Elida), Sienna Fry (Ottawa-Glandorf), Lily Rammel (St. Marys) and Reyna Woodruff (Wapakoneta),

Garnering third team honors were Claire Foust (Bath), Ava Knapke (Celina), Allison Schiweterman (Celina), Sadie Larrabee (Kenton), Halle Huston (St. Marys) and Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta).

Leipsic’s Serenity Siefer was named Putnam County League player of the year and Viking head coach Brent Newell was named coach of the year.

Joining Siefer on the first team were Delaney Bowers (Continental), Malia Romes (Kalida), Kasey Brough (Leipsic), Alivia Jones (Leipsic), Morgan Verhoff (Miller City) and Elise Kramer (Ottoville).

Making the second team were Tori Wenzinger (Miller City), Makailey Bermudez (Columbus Grove), Erica Thorbahn (Ottoville), Marisa Hermiller (Leipsic) Autumn Schulte (Pandora-Gilboa), Corrin Luginbill (Pandora-Gilboa) and Savanna Niese (Miller City).

Ottoville 3, Kalida 2 (PK)

KALIDA — Ottoville’s Jessa Burgei had two goals. Kalida won on penalty kicks and got gols from Lauren Schulte and Audra Hovest. Livia Recker and Alex Gardner each had an assist. Ottoville golaie Maddison Hoersten made 20 saves and Kalida keeper Kassidy Hipsher made two.

Miller City 6, Fort Jennings 0

MILLER CITY — Miller City’s Ava Rosegarten scored two goals and Taylor Wilhelm, Anna Niese, Maddie Erford and Danica Ehlers all added goals. Nicole Inkrott, Niese and Ehlers were credited with assists. Wildcat keeper Liz Otto made one save.

Ottawa-Glandorf’s Makenna Siefker was named WBL player of the year and her coach, Michelle Maag, was named coach of the year.

ST. MARYS — St. Marys’ Quinn Holtzapple and A.J. Dieringer recorded two goals and two assists and Will Menker had two toals and one assist. Rhett Chisolm and Wyatt Chapman each had a goal and an assist. Maddox Herteinstein and Cayden Ballweg each had goals and Jack Herteinstein had an assist. Easton Craft had two0 goals and an assist.

Shawnee’s Austin Miller was named WBL player of the year and the Indians coach, Ryan Quatman, was named top coach.

Football

High school poll

COLUMBUS — Wapakoneta jumped into the top 10 in the latest Associated Press Ohio High School Football poll released Monday.

The Redskins (8-1), who were ranked No. 8 in Division III, claimed a share of the Western Buckeye League title last week with a win over Celina.

In Division IV, Van Wert (8-1) was ranked No. 5 and St. Marys (7-2) came in at 14th.

Coldwater (9-0) held the top spot in Division V and Marion Local (9-0) was No. 1 in Division VI. The two teams square off this Friday night.

Allen East, who claimed a share of Northwest Conference last week, was ranked No. 9.

In Division VII, New Bremen was ranked No. 6 with Waynesfield-Goshen (9-0), who grabbed a share of the Northwest Central Conference last week, was ranked eighth. Lima Central Catholic (6-3) came in at No. 11 and will face No. 8 ranked Ft. Loramie (7-2) this Friday.
