Roundup: Girls tennis sectional titles determined

LIMA — Shawnee singles player Alora Patel and the Bath doubles team of Elena Oliver and Anne Oliver won Division II girls high school tennis sectional crowns Saturday at the University of Northwestern Ohio.

Patel defeated Lima Central Catholic’s Libby Simmons 6-4, 6-1 in the singles final. Shawnee’s Ava Patel defeated teammate Rose Kottapalli 6-3, 6-1 in the third-place match. All four qualified for Thursday’s district at Port Clinton.

The Olivers defeated LCC’s Paige Brinkman and Claire Janowski 6-2, 6-2 in the doubles championship. Ottawa-Glandorf’s Megan Welch and Mya Inkrott defeated Celina’s Michelle Elston and Lauren Muhlenkamp 6-0, 1-6, 6-0 for third place. All four teams made the district.

DELPHOS — The Knights won 25-8, 25-14, 25-22. Adelyn Figley had three aces, Myia Etzler had 15 kills, Laci McCoy had 11 kills, Cali Gregory had 31 assists and Ellie Kline had 17 digs for Crestview.

Grace Moenter had two aces, 13 digs and 10 assists, Abby Kerner had 13 digs, Laila Sites had seven kills and Mia Conley five kills and 14 blocks for DSJ.

Minster 3, Houston 2

The Wildcats won 22-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-15, 15-8. Lyndi Hemmelgarn had five aces and 29 digs, Lilly Barhorst had four aces, 13 kills and four blocks, Kayla Lamm had 14 kills and five blocks and Alayna Prenger had 14 assists and 22 digs for Minster.

Allen East wins two

DOLA — Allen East defeated host Hardin Northern 25-9, 25-12 and Cory-Rawson 25-18, 25-10.

Kenton 1

The Wildcats fell 25-21, 10-25, 25-22, 25-15. Sadie Larrabee had seven kills and 10 blocks, Macee Heckathorn had six kills and eight blocks, Cailyn Hopkins had six kills, Brynn Butler had 22 digs and Brinley Hites had 18 digs for Kenton.

Coldwater 2, Bryan 0

The Cavaliers won 25-12, 25-9. Morgan Blasingame had six aces aces and 10 digs, Riley Rismiller had five kills and Jenna Leugers had 10 assists for Coldwater.

The Cavaliers won 25-7, 25-8. Blasingame had seven aces and six, Madison Wendel had six kills, Leugers had 10 assists and Mia Knapke had 10 assists for Coldwater.

Reide Jackson scored on a Gavin Evans assist. Myles Moody got the shutout in goal and Temple Christian counterpart Dawson Clay finished with 12 saves.

Ethan Barlage had a goal and an assist, Ashten Searfoss had a pair of assists, CJ Lehman, Mason Rieman and Talon Heuerman each had a tally, Andrew Wagner had an assist and Lane Pester made five saves to earn the shutout in goal.

KENTON — Connor Defibaugh had two goals and teammates Seth Manns and Colby Quay each had an assist. Kenton’s MJ Coulson recorded two saves.

GALION — Abi Temple had three goals and a assist, Gabriella Wetherill had a pair of tallies and Ali Harpel had a goal and an assist. Avery Smith and Ruby Styer each had a goal also for the Wildcats.

Lions Invitational

COLDWATER — The Cincinnati Moeller boys (64) and Fort Loramie girls (72) won team championships.

In the boys event, Lincolnview (111), Van Wert (141), Marion Local (143) and Minster (175) finished second through fifth respectively.

Shawnee’s Noah Williams finished second behind race winner Jaxen Durfey from Tinora. Fort Recovery’s Trevor Heitkamp was fifth with Marion Local’s Troy Stucke, Van Wert’s Owen Scott and Lincolnview’s Kreston Tow and Conner Baldauf finishing seventh through 10th respectively.

Fort Recovery (170) and Shawnee (176) were fourth and fifth respectively in the girls competition.

Lincolnview’s Brynleigh Moody, Shawnee’s Alaina Williams, Fort Recovery’s Natalie Brunswick and Shawnee’s Molly Stump were fifth through eighth respectively behind race winner Camille Borchers from Fort Loramie.

ANNA — The Botkins boys (48) and Lakota West girls (33).

Bath (132) finished third in the boys standings. New Bremen’s Zach Wiedeman (third), Wapakoneta’s Axton Fosnaugh (fifth) and Bath’s Jacob Wireman (sixth) were among the top 10 finishers behind race winner Asher Long from Covington.

New Bremen (112) was fourth in the girls event. Kalida’s Andrea Burgei was seventh behind race winner Paige Steinke from Anna.

HANOVER, Ind. — Blake Rine completed 23 of 47 pass attempts for 280 yards and a pair of TD throws to Ethan Beringer, who finished with five catches for 94 yards. Kainan Stoner had a touchdown run also for the Beavers (0-5, 0-2 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Ohio Northern 3, Capital 1

ADA —Junior Kaidie Carstensen had a career-high 18 kills to lead Ohio Northern to a 25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 25-12 victory at Capital on Saturday afternoon at the Capital Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 13-5 overall and stay on top of the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 3-0 record, while the Comets fall to 8-12, 0-3.

Ohio Northern 4, Capital 3

ADA — Ohio Northern celebrated Parent’s Day with a special halftime ceremony and a against Capital at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 7-2-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the OAC while dropping the Comets to 1-7-2, 0-2-1.

After taking a 1-0 lead on a Capital own goal early in the second half, Northern found the back of the net three times courtesy of senior Aaron Shelton, junior Cade Winchester and sophomore Ryan Parker.

BLUFFTON — Jackson Clark and Elijah Zimmerman had Bluffton’s goals.

Women’s soccer

Ohio Northern 2, Capital 2

COLUMBUS — Ohio Northern played to a draw at at Bernlohr Stadium.

The Polar Bears (6-1-4 overall, 1-0-2 OAC) recorded their second straight draw and extended their current unbeaten streak to five games.

Sophomore Alyssa Beckett and junior Jill Roberts scored one goal apiece for Northern.
