LCC captures Lima City Tennis Invitational

Lima Central Catholic captured first place in three of the five events to take first place at the Lima City Tennis Invitational Saturday.

The T-Birds finished with 26 points followed by Wapakoneta and Ottawa-Glandorf who tied for second with 17 points. Elida was fourth with 14 points and Bath was fifth with 13 points. Bluffton took sixth with 10 points and Lima Senior earned four points.

At No. 1 singles, LCC’s Libby Simmons defeated Bath’s Elena Oliver (8-5) in the finals to garner first. Simmons’ teammate Claire Janawski beat Anne Oliver (8-2) to take the No. 2 singles division. Wapakoneta’s Elisabeth Good was the No. 3 singles winner after downing Ottawa-Glandorf’s Maggie Schmiedebusch (8-1) in the finals.

Wapakoneta’s doubles team of Brooke Minnig and Kierra Siefring were the No. 2 doubles champions after beating the LCC duo of Paige Brinkman and Emma Skinner in the finals (8-5). At No. 2 doubles, The T-Bird team of Mckenna Bader and Maria Pignataro got past the Ottawa-Glandorf pair of Kalin Varst and Sarah Ellerbrock (8-5).

Schroeder Invitational

The St. Marys girls tennis team finished in first place at the Schroeder Invitational.

Charley Spencer at first singles placed third. In her first match of the day, she beat Valley View first singles 8-0. In the next round, she lost to a very talented Miami Valley player 0-8. In the 3rd place match, Charley played Breavercreek and won 8-3.

Maddie White, at second singles, placed second today. She beat her first two opponents, Celina (8-0) and Kenton Ridge (8-1). In the championship match, White was defeated.

At third singles, Cora Rable defeated Kenton Ridge 8-3 in the first round. In the second round of the tournament, Rable defeated Piqua 8-0 to send her to the championship match where she defeated Valley View 8-3 to earn first place.

At first doubles, Jodi Perry and Liz Brown were champions. To get there, they defeated Valley View in the first round 8-3 and Piqua in the second round 8-3 again. In the championship match for first doubles, the Rider team defeated Miami Valley in a close match 9-7.

At second doubles, Audrey Shannon and Summerfest Queen Molly Schlosser placed second. In the first round, they defeated Kenton Ridge 8-1. In the second round, the Rider duo beat Piqua 8-5. In the championship match, they were defeated by Beavercreek in a close match 7-9.
