Roundup: Locos drop playoff opener

ADRIAN, Mich. — The Lima Locos fell 4-2 to the Michigan Monarchs Tuesday night in their Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League playoff opener.

Lima is scheduled to play host to Game 2 of the best of three series at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Simmons Field.

Paid sports clerk positions

The Lima News is accepting applications for paid sports clerk positions which begin in August. Clerks turn raw data into statistical information for a variety of sports. Choose a flexible schedule between two and five shifts a week.

Shifts run as early as 7 p.m. to as late as 11 p.m. school nights and midnight weekends and beginning at 2 p.m. Saturdays. Work period runs during school year.

Position requires working sports knowledge, especially football, accuracy, typing skills and ability to take instructions.

LJGA season concludes

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — The Lima Junior Golf Association McDonald’s Junior Series concluded its season Monday with the Elks Invitational Tournament of Champions at Shawnee Country Club.

Botkins’ Ross Dietz won the boys 16-18 title with a 1-under-par 71, one stroke lower than runner-up Carson Harmon from Lima.

Lima’s Bridget Mulcahy was the girls 16-18 champ with an 80. Celina’s Grace Romer finished second with an 88.

Payne’s Kyle Sutton had the low boys 14-15 round with a 77 followed by Van Wert’s Keaton Foster (82).

In the nine-hole par 36 competition, Kalida’s Paul Stechschulte won the boys 12-13 division with a 40. Ottoville’s Evan Altenburger was next with an 43.

Morgan Maxwell posted a 52 for the girls 15 and younger. Kallie McKinley (57) was second.
