Roundup: Locos sweep Jet Box

HIGHLAND, Mich. — Winning pitcher Dillon Masters (Ohio University) allowed one run, six hits and a walk while striking out eight in 6 1/3 innings as the Lima Locos defeated Jet Box 2-1 in the first game of a Thursday Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League doubleheader sweep.

Jayden Davis (Samford) had two hits, including a double, and Diego Gines (Indiana State) doubled and had an RBI also for Lima. Patrick Dillon (Toledo) earned the save.

In game two, Shawnee graduate Jacob Hutchins had two hits and two RBI and Brennen Norton (Jacksonville State) and Isaiah Velazco (Glendale Community College) each had two hits and an RBI in the Locos’ 6-3 victory.

ELIDA — Briston Wise had two hits and Sam Houg had a hit and an RBI for Van Wert. Brayden Pohlman and Brayden Conley each had a hit and an RBI for DSJ.

ARCHBOLD — Ottawa Glandorf defeated Archbold 12-3 and Napoleon topped Kalida 11-0. Friday, host Archbold will play Kalida at 5:30 p.m. followed by Ottawa-Glandorf against Napoloeon.

Bluffton names coach

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University has named Connor Gulick as head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach.

Gulick returns to Bluffton following two years of collegiate coaching experience at Heidelberg University. He also previously served as a volunteer assistant coach at Utica High School in the summer of 2019.

A 2020 Bluffton graduate in sport management and business administration, Gulick was a four-year member of Bluffton’s cross country and track and field teams. He broke Bluffton’s school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2019 and earned All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honorable mention recognition in 2016 for cross country and 2017, 2018 and 2019 for indoor track. Gulick served as a captain for the track team his junior and senior years of college and for the cross country team in his senior season.
