Roundup: Harmon has low round at junior golf tourney

OTTAWA — Boys 16-18 champ Carson Harmon from Lima shot an even-par 71 for the low round during Tuesday’s

Lima Junior Golf Association McDonald’s Junior Series Union Bank Open at Pike Run Golf Run.

Delphos’ Jack Gerker was second with a 72.

Bellefontaine’s Kayla Watkins was the girls 16-18 winner with a 77. DeGraff’s Zoey Merritt (84) was runner-up. Leipsic’s Brevin Brandt had the low boys 14-15 score with a 74. Payne’s Kyle Sutton (77) was next.

In the nine-hole par 35 competition, Ottoville’s Evan Altenburger finished atop the boys 12-13 leader board with a 36. Ottawa’s Alex Bellman (42) was second. Lima’s Kallie McKinley won the girls 15 and younger division with a 54. Morgan Maxwell of Troy had the next lowest score with a 57.

MILLER CITY — Kalida clinched a spot in the district tournament in Archbold with a 1-o victory against Ottawa-Glandorf. Leipsic will play at Miller City in a south sectional game at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

District 4

COLDWATER — Celina remained unbeaten in the Mercer County sectional with a 5-1 victory against Fort Recovery. Winning pitcher Caleb Stephenson and Dale Secrest combined to allow three hits and 10 walks while striking out seven in seven innings. Max Baumstark had a hit and two RBI. Celina will play the winner of Tuesday night’s other game between host Coldwater and St. Henry at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Monarchs 4, Locos 2

ADRIAN, Mich. — Locos starting pitcher Carter Doorn (Purdue) did not give up a run and allowed two hits and four walks while striking out five in five innings. Bryant Herring (Kennesaw State) and Ty Gill (Purdue) each had a hit and scored a run also for Lima (10-10). The Locos and Monarchs play again at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Siena Heights University.
