Roundup: Bluffton grad Bassitt wins hurdles for Ashland

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Ashland University senior Trevor Bassitt, a Bluffton graduate, won the 400 meter hurdles Saturday at the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Grand Valley State.

Bassitt’s time of 48.98 seconds gave him his 10th national championship, a new PR in the event and puts him at No. 4 all-time in D-II in the event.

Earlier in the week, Bassitt was named College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District, received the Great Midwest Athletic Conference’s 2022 Male Collegiate Achievement Award and was named the conference’s men’s track athlete of the year.

LEXINGTON — Kenton’s Addy Modd qualified for state with a second place in the 300 hurdles. She also was seventh in the 100 hurdles. On Thursday, the Wildcats’ Parker Rarey made state with a third place in the boys discus. Kenton’s Tatum Miller was fifth in the girls shot put.

The first four individual or relay teams in each event at each regional qualify for state . In addition, the next two best times, distances, and heights statewide in each event will be invited to the state meet as well.

FINDLAY — The Shawnee boys’ K.J. Upshaw won the 200 and was second in the 100 Friday night.

ELIDA — Braxton Howell had a hit and an RBI and Rece Mescher doubled for Coldwater (20-8). Teammate Keegan Bruggeman allowed two earned runs, three hits and two walks while striking out two in six innings.
