Roundup: Columbus Grove boys win Division III track & field regional

PORT CLINTON — Columbus Grove won the boys team title at Friday night’s Division III regional.

The Bulldogs finished with 83 points. Bluffton (68.5) was second.

Columbus Grove’s A.J. Schafer (shot put), Bluffton’s Eden Antrim (1,600) and Landon Armstrong (800) and Ottoville’s Kellen Schlagbaum (300 hurdles) each won events.

Ethan Bogart, Landon Armstrong, Justin Good and Antrim teamed up to win the 1,600 relay.

On Wednesday, Grove’s Tadd Koch won the discus.

In the girls competition, Leipsic (23 points) was ninth for the top area finish. Colonel Crawford (84) was the team champ.

MASON — Shawnee singles player Gabe Burke fell 6-0, 6-3 to Gahanna Columbus Academy’s Lucas Sue and the Ottawa-Glandorf doubles team of Eli Schmenk and Joshua Walls were defeated 6-0, 6-0 by Indian Hill’s RJ Poffenberger and Tejas Pisati in opening round matches of the Division II state tournament at Lindner Family Tennis Center.

ARCHBOLD — Van Wert’s Luke Wessell did not walk a batter and allowed two earned runs and seven hits while striking out four in six innings.

BLUFFTON — The Division II district semifinal between Wapakoneta and Celina was postponed until 3:30 p.m. at Bluffton University.

LIMA — Winning pitcher Reece Dellinger allowed two hits and a pair of walks while striking out 11 in seven innings at the University of Northwestern Ohio. AJ Harlamert had three hits, including a double, and two RBI and Braxton Howell had two hits and four RBI. Carter Parlapiano and Austin Williams each had a hit for Bath. The Cavaliers will play for the district championship against Eastwood at 2 p.m. today at Elida.

LIMA — Zach Fortman and Brandon Lickteig each had a hit for Minster.

ONU’s Digby 7th

at D-III nationals

GENEVA — Ohio Northern’s Keegan Digby earned All-American status with a school-record throw to place seventh in the shot put Friday at the NCAA Division III Championships at the SPIRE Institute.

“This feels great,” Digby said after receiving his All-American trophy. “I’ve put in a lot of work for this, and I’m really happy to finally be seeing results from it.”

Digby is the first All-American in the shot put in school history for men’s track and field. He posted a throw of 16.38, besting his previous school-record mark of 16.34 meters.

LIMA — Friday night’s Memorial Cup at Limaland Motorsports Park was canceled due to storms and rain.

The next scheduled event is the Keysor Memorial presented by Homeland Technology Group on Friday, June 3, featuring the Bud Thunderstocks going for $2,000 to win, Northwest Physical Therapy UMP Modifieds, Non-Wing Sprints and Tough Trucks.
