Roundup: Leipsic’s Hermiller throws softball 1-hitter

LEIPSIC — Winning pitcher Jocelyn Hermiller allowed one hit and two walks while striking out 11 in seven innings as the host Vikings defeated Spencerville 3-0 in high school softball Friday.

Abby Haselman had a double and three RBI and Ava Henry had a pair of hits also for Leipsic. Sydney LeMar had Spencerville’s hit.

Lima Senior 1

LIMA — Dakota Lewis had a hit and an RBI and Anna Engberg and Ti’Ana Spivey each had a double for Lima Senior.

Whitmer 12,

Lima Senior 0

LIMA — Spivey had two hits, including a double, and Engberg doubled.

Ridgemont 7, Ada 3

MT. VICTORY — Hallie Howard had three hits, including a double and a home run, and four RBI and Braxton Thomas had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Ridgemont. Jenna Bassitt and Belah Price each had a double and an RBI for Ada.

Bluffton 9,

Miller City 1

MILLER CITY — Winning pitcher Hannah Davis gave up five hits and two walks while striking out six in 6 2/3 innings. Ashley Fleece had three hits, including a double, and an RBI, Riley Busch had three hits and two RBI and Lauren Bassett had three hits, including a double, and three RBI also for the Pirates. Nicholette Inkrott had two hits and an RBI and Taylor Wilhelm had two hits for the Wildcats.

Riverdale 20,

Continental 8

CONTINENTAL — Reese Knowles had three hits and an RBI and Tori Searfoss and Raegen Clemens each had two hits and two RBI for the host Pirates.

Ada 9, Ridgemont 4

MT. VICTORY — Winning pitcher Snyder allowed two earned runs, a hit and a walk while striking out 10 in five innings. Phipps had two hits and an RBI and Zach Neiswander had two hits and two RBI also for the Bulldogs. Xavier Stuck had Ridgemont’s hits.

St. Henry 3, Houston 2

ST. HENRY — Clayton Everman scored in the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh. Seth Heitkamp had two hits, including a triple, also for the Redskins.

New Bremen 1

JACKSON CENTER — Reece Busse, who had New Bremen’s hit, allowed one earned run, five hits and four walks while striking out four in six innings.

RUSSIA — Aiden Anderson had two hits for Parkway.

Bluffton sweeps

RICHMOND, Ind. — Bluffton University downed Earlham 11-6 and 9-3 for its first season sweep of Earlham since 2014. The Beavers improved to 11-14 overall and 4-4 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, while Earlham fell to 18-8 and (7-3 HCAC).

Jake Baumgartner went 3-of-5 with four RBI and two runs scored andBrandon Wilson finished 3-of-5 with three RBI in the 11-6 victory. Garrett O’Reilly went 2-of-4 with two home runs and four RBI while Jack Towell was 2-of-5 with three RBI.

ONU wins twice

ADA — Ethan Spears and Coldwater graduate Jacob Wenning combined for 14 hits, including three home runs, and nine RBI to lead Ohio Northern to a doubleheader sweep of Muskingum at Wander Field.

The Polar Bears (13-15 overall, 4-6 OAC) won 11-10 in Game 1 and defeated Muskingum (11-15 overall, 1-9 OAC) 23-13 in Game 2, which was shortened to eight innings due to darkness.

Softball

Beavers lose 2

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Bluffton dropped a pair of HCAC games to Manchester University. Manchester took game one, 3-2, and then held on for an 11-9 victory in the finale.

Lily Tate had three hits and an RBI in the 11-9 loss for the Beavers.

ONU splits

ADA — Ashley Lenser fired her first career no-hitter, leading the Ohio Northern softball team to a double header split at Muskingum in a battle of OAC leaders at Newberry Field.

The Polar Bears (10-8 overall, 6-2 OAC) won the opener 5-0, while the Muskies (21-7, 7-3) took the night cap 3-1.
