Four area high school boys teams in each division head to regionals for a chance at making the state finals.
Here is rundown of what the squads have done in the tournament and their regional semifinal opponents:
DIVISION I
Lima Senior (22-2) vs. Sylvania Northview (24-1)
at Toledo Savage Arena
Wednesday 7 p.m.
Lima Senior has been rolling in the postseason
The Spartans are on a 12-game winning streak and look impressive in the tournament. After blowing out Toledo Waite 109-35, they followed it up with victories over Sylvania Southview 62-38 and Perrysburg 53-45.
The defense is giving up an average of 39.3 points a game and scoring 74,6 points a game.
Northview’s road to the regionals began with a win over Bowsher, 83-62 then Bowling Green 76-40 and a 54-48 victory over Toledo Whitmer 54-48 to capture the district title.
In the playoffs, Northview is averaging 71 points and giving up an average of 50 points.
Northview’s Sean Craig, senior forward, is averaging 28.2 points a game and grabbing 14 rebounds a contest and is the three-time Northern Lakes League player of the year. Teammate Kasey Hunt, a senior guard, is averaging 15.1 points and snaring 5.2 rebounds a game.
DIVISION II
St. Marys (17-7) vs. Huron (22-2)
at Bowling Green State University
Thursday, 8 p.m.
St. Marys is returning to the regionals after a 17-year absences.
The Roughriders snared a spot after defeating Napoleon in the district finals, 61-53. St. Marys opened the tournament with a 52-28 win over Celina and then captured a 48-38 win over Wauseon.
Led by Ohio State bound Austin Parks and Gavin Reineke, the Riders have yet to allow an opponent score more than 40 points in the postseason and are giving up an average of 34.3 points a game.
Huron, winners of 12 straight, come into the regional final with tournament wins over Vermilion, 68-25, Ontario 65-54 and Norwalk 64-43 and then the Tigers bumped of Lexington in the district final 46-39.
Huron’s Dylan Hohler, a junior forward, is averaging 18.5 points a game and 8.6 rebounds a contest.
Division III
Ottawa-Glandorf (22-3) vs. Pemberville Eastwood (22-3)
at Bowling Green State University
Wednesday , 8 p.m.
No one has come close to the Titans in the tournament. O-G has had an average winning margin of 24 points with wins over Coldwater, Liberty-Benton and Wayne Trace.
Offensively, the Titans are consistent, scoring 63, 63 and 62 points in each of their three wins.
Eastwood lost to O-G earlier in the year by a score of 66-49. The Eagles have also posted big wins in the tournament with an average margin victory of 29 points.
Eastwood is led by senior guard Jacob Meyer who is averaging 18.6 points a contest and grabbing 7.4 rebounds a game.
Division IV
Ottoville (17-9) vs. Tiffin Calvert (25-0)
at Bowling Green State University
Tuesday, 6 p.m.
Ottoville has come in as one of the hottest teams in the area. After losing back-to-back contest Feb. 11 and Feb. 18, the Big Green has won four straight and in the tournament has picked up wins over Pandora-Gilboa, 44-31, Crestview, 60-50, and Columbus Grove, 64-45. All three of those teams were winners of league titles.
The Big Green is averaging 56 points a game and giving up an average of 42 points a contest.
Ottoville faces its biggest test of the postseason against an unbeaten Calvert squad. The Senecas opened the postseason with a 66-47 win over North Baltimore and then cruised past Carey, 55-36 and Old Fort, 48-30, in the district finals.
Ranked No. 1 throughout much of the year, Tiffin is averaging 56.3 points and giving up an average of 37.6 points in the tournament.
Tiffin is led by a trio of seniors. Garrett Spau, the point guard, is averaging 16.8 points, five rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.7 steals per game and teammate Nolan Beeker, forward, is putting in 9.7 points and grabbing 5.6 rebounds contest. Blake Ronski, guard, is averaging 12.3 points a game.
