Roundup: Parkway’s Stober reaches 1,000 points in sectional victory

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Parkway’s Gabrielle Stober surpassed 1,000 career points in the Panthers’ 43-40 girls high school basketball Division IV sectional final win Saturday against New Bremen.

Hughes finished with 11 points while teammate Gabrielle Stober scored 20. Kaylee Freund had 13 points and Ella Pape scored eight for New Bremen (16-7).

Parkway (16-8) will play Marion Local, a 40-2o winner against St. Henry, in a district semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wapakoneta.

New Knoxville 54,

Hardin Northern 20

SPENCERVILLE — Ellie Gabel had 24 points and Haley Fledderjohann and Carsyn Henschen scored nine each for New Knoxville (22-2). Bella Wilson had 12 points for Hardin Northern (4-17).

The Rangers will play the winner of Minster-Fort Recovery at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Wapakoneta.

BRYAN — Carly Thorbahn had 23 points and Elise Kramer scored 15 for Ottoville (10-13), which will play Antwerp, a 38-33 winner against Edon, in a sectional final at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Bryan.

Ottawa-Glandorf’s Erin Kaufman (player of the year) and Shawnee’s Rachel Rumbaugh (coach of the year) received top honors in Division I-II-III.

Joining Kaufman on the first team were Zoe Best (Shawnee), Ava Craddock (Bath), Kendall Dieringer (St. Mary’s), Lauren Gerken (Liberty-Benton), Alyvia Lindeman (Delphos Jefferson) and Riley Rismiller (Coldwater).

In D-IV, player of the year went to Miller City’s Abi Lamemers and Miller City’s Ross Heuerman and New Knoxville’s Ross Heuerman shared coach of the year honors.

MILLER CITY — Peyton Adams had 18 points and Ethan Foltz scored 15 for Paulding (8-14). Silas Niese had 12 points and Jaden Nuveman and Owen Tobe each scored 10 for Miller City (11-11).

DEFIANCE — Carspm Parker (22), Evan Unruh (14) and Billy Bourk (11) scored in double digits for LCC (11-10).

All-District 8

FINDLAY — Lima Senior finished eighth with 14 points behind Three Rivers Athletic Conference team champion Oregon Clay, which had 210.5 points. Lima Senior’s Aaron Bowsher was second at 150 pounds.

BVC Tournament

MCCOMB — Pandora-Gilboa finished seventh with 31 points behind Blanchard Valley Conference champion Liberty-Benton (255). P-G’s Mitchell Blank won the 165 pound title.

Girls swimming

Division I district

BOWLING GREEN — Wapakoneta’s Addisyn Newman qualified for state with a second place in the 50 freestyle and was fifth in the 100 breaststroke at Bowling Green State University The 200 medley relay team was sixth and the 200 freestyle relay team was 10th also for Wapak. The names of the relay teams’ members were not reported.

Men’s basketball

Muskingham 76, Ohio Northern 69

ADA — Senior Brandon Waugh (Columbus/Northland) scored 22 points as the Ohio Northern men’s basketball team fell 76-69 to Muskingum on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day at the ONU Sports Center.

With the loss, the Polar Bears finish the regular season 9-14 overall and 3-13 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and the Muskies improve to 6-19, 3-15.

Waugh, the team’s lone senior, led Ohio Northern in scoring and added nine rebounds to his stat line.

Junior Adam Scott (Wapakoneta) earned his first double-double of the season and the second of his career with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Siena Heights 74, UNOH 65

LIMA — UNOH (11-18, 8-12) wrapped up the regular season with a home loss to Siena Heights (8-20, 5-15) 74-65.

The game played tight from start to finish but the Racers came up short in the end as Siena Heights upset UNOH on Senior Day.

Justin Koepp (Elyria) paced the team with 17 points shooting 8-9 (89%) from the field. Zach Montes (Pickerington) finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Hunter Bode (JR/Cincinnati, Ohio) added ten points and six boards off the bench.

The WHAC Tournament is up next for UNOH when they travel to top-seeded Indiana Tech on Wednesday, Feb. 23, with a 7:00 PM tip.

Women’s basketball

Ohio Northern 73, Muskingham 56

ADA — Senior Alissa Stahler (Shawnee) tallied 19 points and eight rebounds to lead the Ohio Northern women’s basketball team to a 73-56 win over Muskingum on Saturday afternoon during Senior Day at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears close the regular season at 16-7 overall and 10-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while dropping Muskingum to 9-14, 4-12.

Junior Brynn Serbin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and senior Lexi Jacobs (Wapakoneta) joined Stahler in double figures with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Senior Jaidyn Hale (Bath) added nine points.

Siena Heights 62, UNOH 44

LIMA — UNOH (3-22, 1-19) fell 62-44 to Siena Heights (23-7, 15-5) on Senior Day.

The Racers took on one of th etop teams in the conference in their last game of the season. A tough battle early saw the Saints pull away. UNOH outscored the Saints in the final frame, but it was took little to late as Siena Heights spoiled the day.

Kimyra McGhee (Chicago) and Ronja Orpo (Espo, Finland) were the team’s leading scorers, putting up 13 points each. Orpo pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and McGhee grabbed six of her own.

As a team, UNOH won the battle of the boards 39-30.

This concludes the 2021-22 campaign for the Racers finishing with an overall record of 3-22 and 1-19 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

Men’s lacrosse

Ohio Northern 13, Alma 4

ALMA, Mich. — Eleven different players scored goals as the Ohio Northern men’s lacrosse team opened its 2022 season with a 13-4 victory at Alma (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon at Bahlke Field.

The Polar Bears (1-0 overall) got two goals each from junior Alex Reimer (Lancaster, N.Y. ) and sophomore Aiden Dempsey (Silver Spring, Md./St. John’s College) and one goal each from nine other players in the win.

Junior Riley O’Neal (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) had a goal and two assists for a team-high three points on the day.

Northern scored five first period goals to lead 5-1 and took an 8-2 lead into intermission.

Junior Cole Zaferakis (Liverpool, N.Y.) had two saves and allowed two goals in the first half to pick up the win in net.

Women’s tennis

ONU goes 1-1

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — The Ohio Northern women’s tennis team traveled to the Transylvania (Ky.) Invite to open their spring season and defeated Greenville (Ill.) 6-3 in the morning match and fell 7-2 to Asbury (Ky.) in the afternoon session at Top Seed Tennis Center.

The Polar Bears are now 8-1 overall on the season.

Junior Jeorgia Templin (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) finished the day 2-0 at No. 2 doubles with partner Miranda Wills (Ada), who was 1-1 at No. 3 singles to go 3-1 overall on the day.

Junior Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) was 3-1 on the day as well with two wins at No. 4 singles and a win at No. 3 doubles.

Freshman Katie O’Connell (Novi, Mich./Saint Catherine) and Marisa Petrunich (Brownsburg, Ind.) were both 1-1 on the day with a win at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

Men’s tennis

Polar Bears split matches

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — The Ohio Northern men’s tennis team traveled to the Transylvania (Ky.) Invite to open their spring season and defeated Greenville (Ill.) 7-2 in the morning match and fell 9-0 to Asbury (Ky.) in the afternoon match at Top Seed Tennis Center.

Fifth-year senior Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles), and freshmen Peyton Specht (Munster, Ill.) and Drew Swisher (Findlay) all went 2-2 on the day.

Junior Matt Garcia (Downer’s Grove, Ill./South) was 1-1 on the day at both No. 1 doubles matches.

Freshamn Sam Sran (PB, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) was 1-1 on the day at both No. 5 singles matches with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the morning match.
