Roundup: Shawnee defeats No. 5 ranked Wayne Trace

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Shawnee earned a 61-55 boys high school basketball victory Saturday night against No. 5 ranked Division III Wayne Trace.

Brady Wheeler had 12 points and Austin Miller scored 10 for the host Indians.

LIMA — Cody Motter had 15 points and Landon Callahan scored 10 for Temple Christian. Cayden Murphy had 20 points for Ada.

PANDORA — Kenzie King (24), Lauryn Auchmuty (15) and Koryn Halker (12) scored in double digits for the Bulldogs. Lacie Fenstermaker had 16 points and broke the P-G school record for most rebounds in a career, reaching 993.

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Zoe Best had 18 points and five rebounds and Grace Freiberger scored nine, had eight steals and six rebounds for Shawnee.

Bryce James had seven points and Mi’auni Hall scored six for Perry.

St. Marys 52, Elida 42

ST. MARYS — Kendall Dieringer had 24 points and Noey Ruane scored 13 for St. Marys. Elli Mitchell had 24 points and Addisyn Freeman scored nine for Elida.

Sectionals held

Area competitors attempted to qualify for Division I and II districts during sectionals Saturday.

At Lima, Minster’s Alex Albers won the 100 and 200 freestyles and Bluffton’s Riley Verb was first in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. St. Marys’ Reese Triplett (100 backstroke), Minster’s Lucas Stammen (50 freestyle), New Bremen’s Andy Jiang (100 butterfly) and Bluffton’s Xavier Diller (500 freestyle) also won individual events.

Albers, Russell Heid, Ryan Halpin and Stammen won the 400 freestyle relay and Reese Triplett, Jaxton Spees, Griffin Luebke and Marcus McClain from St. Marys were first in the 200 medley relay. Connor Milner, Triplett, Luebke and McClain won the 200 freestyle relay.

In the girls competiton, Ada’s Lily Baumgartner won the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke and New Bremen’s Annie Jiang won the 200 and 500 freestyles.

Marion Local’s Kylie Niekamp (200 IM) 2:17.52, Ada’s. Carlie Oldfield (50 Freestyle), Minster’s 1. Cameo Cedarleaf (100 Freestyle) and St. Marys’ Ciera Rupert (100 Breaststoke) were also individual race winners.

200 Medley Relay: Jiang, Caroline Whitlach, Gia Johnson, Katie Sleming won the 200 medley relay and Bluffton’s

Izzy Stechschulte, June Essinger, Ella Armstrong and Allison Diller were first in the 200 freestyle relay. Stechschulte, Rory Youngpeter, Armstrong and Diller won the 400 freestyle relay.

At Fremont in D-II boys event, Wapakoneta’s Alex Honigford won the 50 and 100 freestyles. Teammate Owen Becker was first in the 100 backstroke.

Becker, Ross Honigford, Gavin Sutton and Alex Honigford won the 200 medley relay, Luke Wierwille, Gannon Casebolt, Cameron Reichenbach, Alex Honigford were first in the 200 freestyle relay and Wierwille, Owen Becker, Suttonn Reichenbach won the 400 freestyle relay.

In the girls event,Wapak’s Caitlyn Rostorfer, Addisyn Newman, MaKenna Krouse and Katie Bauer won the 200 medley relay and Katie Bauer, Ainsley Bump, Rostorfer and Newman were first in the 200 freestyle relay.

At Ayersville, Van Wert’s Jayden Welker won the 200 IM and 100 butterfly and teammate Sam Houg (200 freestyle) and Ottawa-Glandorf’s Noah Schnipke (500 Freestyle) and Grady Steffan (100 breaststroke) were also individual event winners.

Welker, Houg, Gage Wannemacher and Ian Rex won the 200 and 400 relays.

In the girls event, Ottawa-Glandorf’s Marissa Beckett won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Van Wert’s Haley Chiles (200 freestyle) Coldwater’s Carlee Goodwin (100 freestyle), O-G’s Kenzington Cupp (500 freestyle) and Fort Recovery’s Tegen Fortkamp (100 backstroke) also won individual events

Abby Warnecke, Olivia Fenbert, Taylor Knott and Beckett won the 200 freestyle relay, Knott, Cupp, Warnecke and Fenbert were first in the 200 medley relay and Warnecke, Cupp, Knott and Beckett won the 400 freestyle relay/

No area swimmers were first in the D-I competition also at Fremont.

The fastest 32 from the six sectional sites qualify for districts.
