No. 16 Ohio State finds road footing against Michigan, 68-57

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — E. J. Liddell had 26 points, Cedric Russell added 12 and No. 16 Ohio State beat Michigan 68-57 on Saturday night.

The Buckeyes (15-6, 8-4 Big Ten) rebounded from a 66-64 loss at Rutgers on Wednesday to win for the second time in three games. Ohio State had lost four of its previous five road games.

Eli Brooks had 17 points and Hunter Dickinson added 14 for Michigan (13-10, 7-6), which was playing its third game in five days.

The Buckeyes led 33-30 at halftime and pulled away in the second half.

Ohio State hit 50% of shots from the floor compared to 42.1% for Michigan. But Michigan outrebounded Ohio State 31-25.

Brooks became the 56th Michigan player to record 1,000 career points with a layup in the second half.

At stake

Ohio State: The Buckeyes could stay at No. 16 in the poll for another week.

Michigan: Needs a strong stretch run or a stellar showing in the conference tournament to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament.

Notable

At halftime, Michigan honored former player Rudy Tomjanovich, who had a long career as a player and coach in the NBA. He was the first Wolverine to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020. … The game was the first of the season between the rivals. They will play again on March 6 at Ohio State. … The Buckeyes play six of their last eight games at home, where they are undefeated (10-0) this season.

Miami (Ohio) 94, Bowling Green 78

OXFORD — Mekhi Lairy had 24 points as Miami (Ohio) got past Bowling Greeny.

Dae Dae Grant had 19 points and nine rebounds for Miami (Ohio) (11-13, 5-8 Mid-American Conference). Dalonte Brown added 14 points. Precious Ayah had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Myron Gordon had 20 points for the Falcons (12-13, 5-9). Trey Diggs added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Chandler Turner had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Daeqwon Plowden, who led the Falcons in scoring coming into the contest with 17 points per game, had eight points on 3-of-14 shooting.

Ohio University 74, Eastern Michigan 56

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Mark Sears had 27 points as Ohio defeated Eastern Michigan.

Miles Brown had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Ohio (21-4, 12-2 Mid-American Conference).

Darion Spottsville had 12 points for the Eagles (8-16, 3-10), who have now lost five games in a row. Luka Savicevic added 11 points. Bryce McBride had 10 points.

The Bobcats improve to 2-0 against the Eagles for the season. Ohio defeated Eastern Michigan 81-68 on Feb. 3.

Toledo 100, Northern Illinois 72

DEKALB, Ill. — RayJ Dennis and Ryan Rollins scored 22 points apiece as Toledo rolled past Northern Illinois.

JT Shumate added 20 points for the Rockets. The 22 points were a career high for Dennis, who added eight rebounds and eight assists. Rollins also had seven rebounds, while Shumate posted seven rebounds.

Setric Millner Jr. had 17 points and seven rebounds for Toledo (20-5, 12-2 Mid-American Conference).

Keshawn Williams had 19 points for the Huskies (6-16, 3-9). Kaleb Thornton added 18 points. Anthony Crump had 12 points and six rebounds.
