Roundup: Lima area teams claim prep basketball tourney crowns

BLUFFTON — Bluffton defeated Arlington 67-35 in Thursday night’s championship game of the Bluffton McDonald’s Holiday Tournament. The host Pirates were led by Tournament MVP Trenton Donley with 21 points. Teammates Kyler Kinn and Trey Boblitt were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Continental defeated Cory-Rawson 44-41 in the consolation game.

Also making the all-tourney team were Arlington’s Brady Kinn and Rylar Essinger, Cory-Rawson’s Mike Bixler and Continental’s Rhenn Armey.

In the championship game, Boblitt had 13 points and teammate Marek Donaldson scored 11. In the consolation, Konner Knipp-Williams had 14 points and Mason Rayle scored eight for Continental. Mike Bixler scored 10 for C-R.

Border Battle

HARROD — Upper Scioto Valley defeated host Allen East 67-49 for the tournament championship.

Tourney MVP Connor Sanders (20), Jackson Rohrs (14) and Drew Stephens (13) each scored in double digits for USV. Garett Newland had 18 points and Keaton Miller scored nine for Allen East.

Waynesfield-Goshen outscored Ada 22-12 in the fourth quarter to win the consolation game. Za’mere Daniels (15), Jayden Elliott (11) and Drew Breitigam (10) each scored in double digits for W-G. Cayden Murphy and Carter Conley each had 18 points and Spencer Wall scored 12 for for Ada.

Stephens, Daniels, Murphy and Newland joined Sanders on the all-tournament team.

Asset Allocation Holiday Classic

COLDWATER — St. Henry defeated Marion Local 52-49 in the championship game. Sam Koesters had 20 points and Bennett Gels scored 18 for the champs. Jack Knapke had 17 points and Peyton Otte scored nine for the Flyers.

In the consolation game, Celina defeated the host Cavaliers 49-36. Josh Rasawehr had 17 points and Braylon Gabes scored 16 for the Bulldogs. Kevin Fisher and Luke Schwieterman each had eight points for the Cavaliers.

PANDORA — Landen Grothaus had 22 points for DSJ. Eli Huffman had nine points and Ryan Johnson scored eight for P-G.

MINSTER — Brogan Stephey (12), Devan Wuebker (10) and Noah Piipari (10) each scored in double digits for the host Wildcats.

New Bremen 76, Elida 44

ELIDA — Reece Busse had 16 points for the visiting Cardinals. Seth Sharp scored 16 for the Bulldogs.

VAN WERT — Aidan Pratt had 17 points and Carson Smith scored 11 for the host Cougars. Ethan Crow scored 11 for the Lancers.

HARROD — Allen East won the tournament title with a 46-38 victory against Ada. Tournament MVP Savana Brooks (15), Rilynn Jones (14) and Kennedy Truex (10) each scored in double digits for the champs. Courtney Sumner scored 14 for Ada.

Waynesfield-Goshen defeated Upper Scioto Valley 63-45 in the consolation game. Raegan Hutchinson had 19 points and Kennedy Bigelow scored 12 for W-G. Nevaeh Lowery scored 16 for USV.

Joining Brooks on the all-tourney team were teammate Elle Richardson, Ada’s Oliva Burkhart, Hutchison and Lowery.

PERRY TOWNSHIP — Danaisha Patton had eight points and Mary Hoersten scored six for the host Commodores.

WESTERVILLE — Ohio Northern made 11 3-pointers against Olivet (Mich.) in the second and final day of the Smokey Ballenger Classic at the Rike Center at Otterbein University.

The Polar Bears improved to 8-3 overall while the Comets fell to 3-7.

C.J. Napier led the way for ONU with 19 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

Brandon Waugh, who was named to the event’s All-Tournament Team, posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds to go with four assists, three steals and two blocks. He shot 5-of-10 from 3-point range.

Ethan Bell was 3-for-4 on 3-pointers and finished with 11 points to match his career high. Wapakoneta graduate Adam Scott and Grant Heileman added eight points each for ONU.

Bluffton 69,

BLUFFTON — Coldwater grad Marcus Bruns had 23 points and eight rebounds, Miguel Ringer had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Jameel Cosby had eight points and 10 rebounds for the host Beavers as part of the McDonald’s of Bluffton Holiday Classic.

Geneva 30

BLUFFTON — Ohio Northern won its fifth straight game, defeating Geneva (Pa.) at the McDonald’s of Bluffton Holiday Classic at the Sommer Center on the campus of Bluffton University.

Northern improved to 9-2 overall while the Golden Tornadoes fell to 3-5.

Thursday marked the first time the Polar Bears scored 100-plus points since a 103-50 win at Baldwin Wallace in the 1987-88 season.

Brynn Serbin tallied career-highs of 18 points and seven assists to go with three rebounds and three steals to lead ONU in the win.

Shawnee grad Alissa Stahler added her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds to go with three assists and two blocks.

Kate Iliff and freshman Brooke Allen each added eight points and five rebounds for Northern while Bath grad Jaidyn Hale chipped in seven points, six rebounds and five assists. Wapakoneta grad Lexi Jacobs, Ottoville grad Kasey Knippen and Abby Dickson finished with seven points each.

BLUFFTON — Brianna Gillig had 17 points, 11 rebounds and three assists and Sammy Shardo and Kayla Prigge scored 15 each for the host Beavers against their Indiana opponents as part of the McDonald’s of Bluffton Holiday Classic.
