Roundup: Van Wert edges Wayne Trace in boys hoops

VAN WERT — The host Cougars outscored previously unbeaten Wayne Trace 19-7 in the fourth quarter to earn a 56-55 boys high school basketball victory Saturday night.

Aidan Pratt had 21 points and Maddix Crutchfield and Luke Wessell each scored eight for Van Wert (4-2).

NEW KNOXVILLE — Landon Callahan and Dawson Clay each had 11 points and Ashton Draper scored nine for Temple Christian (2-6). Ryan Osborne had 12 points and Max Henschen scored six for New Knoxville.

FINDLAY — Lima Central Catholic’s Gavin Caprella won the 120-pound division. Coldwater’s Grant Heuing (165 pounds) and Caleb Stammen (190) won their weight classes and teammate Will Fox finished second at 285 pounds.

Coldwater (150.5 points) finished fifth and Lima Central Catholic (30) was 15th in the team standings behnd first place Ontario (242).

GALION — Van Wert’s Joaquin Estrada (113 pounds), Dennis Sudduth (138) and Caleb Bledsoe (190) each finished second in their weight classes. James Smith (157) and Morgein Bigham (190) were each third and Kaedyn Swander (106) and Ashton Baer (132) were fourth in their divisions also for the Cougars

Zach Montes had 19 points and nine rebounds, Bode scored 12, Ottawa-Glandorf graduate Ben Westrick had 10 points and LCC grad Biggz Johnson scored eight and contributed three assists for the Racers.

CINCINNATI — Michael Stammen (20), Jameel Cosby (12), Miguel Ringer (12) and Minster grad Mike Ketner (11) each scored in double digits for Bluffton (2-6, 0-3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference).

Ringer also had 13 rebounds.

COLUMBUS — Shawnee grad Alissa Stahler scored a career-high 20 points to lead Ohio Northern to a victory against Capital at Capital Center Performance Arena.

Ohio Northern improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while Capital fell to 2-8 (0-4 in OAC).

Stahler added eight rebounds.

Brynn Serbin also scored in double figures, finishing with 10 points, a game-high nine rebounds and three assists. Her nine rebounds tied a career high.

BLUFFTON — Morgan Smith had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Sammy Shardo scored 14 and contributed six assists and Brianna Gillig finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists for the host Beavers (3-4 overall, 1-2 HCAC).
