Roundup: Bluffton wins boys hoops opener

BLUFFTON — The host Pirates had five players score in double digits in their 67-35 season opening boys high school basketball victory Saturday night against Paulding.

Trenton Donley, Kyler Kinn, Trey Boblitt and Nate Schaadt each had 13 points and Carson Soper scored 10. Nick Manz had 10 points and Christian Bauer scored eight for Paulding.

LIMA — Konner Knipp-Williams had 15 points and Gavin Hoff scored 12 for Continental. Dawson Clay and Cody Motter had eight points each for Temple Christian.

New Knoxville 24

NEW KNOXVILLE — Austin Parks had 19 points and Evan Angstmann scored 10 for St. Marys. Carson Bierlein had six points for New Knoxville.

Fort Jennings 60, Ada 35

ADA — Jarron Swick had 24 points and Jaret Maag scored 12 for Fort Jennings. Cayden Murphy had 14 points and Carter Conley scored six for Ada.

NEW BREMEN — Reece Busse (20), Nick Alig (17), Nathan Rindler (12) and David Homan (12) all scored in double digits for the host Cardinals.

Crestview 64, Miller City 57

CONVOY — Austin Ruhe had 18 points and Silas Niese and Jaden Nuveman each scored 11 for Miller City.

Wayne Trace 73, Parkway 52

ROCKFORD — Gabe Schaaf (14), Caden Slusher (12) and Riley Samples (10) scored in double digits for Parkway.

West Jefferson 13

PIQUA — Isaac Fullenkamp had 21 carries for 117 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Coldwater. Reece Dellinger completed 19 of 28 pass attempts for 273 yards and had TD throws to Jesse Meyer, who had seven catches for 112 yards, and Tyler Timmerman also for the Cavaliers. Tanner Mulenkamp returned an interception 83 yards for another Coldwater score. The Cavaliers will play Carey, a 26-13 winner against New Middletown Springfield, in the state championship game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.

LIMA — The Flyers advanced to play Newark Catholic a 14-7 winner against Warren JFK for the state championship at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.

COLUMBUS GROVE — The Bulldogs outscored the Wildkittens 11-4 in the fourth quarter and recorded 12 steals.

Savanah Ridenour had 13 points, five rebounds and five steals and Kenzie King scored 13 and contributed five assists for Grove. Ava Craddock had 13 points and Elena Oliver and Lexi Renner scored six each for Bath. Oliver also had six rebounds.

The Bulldogs finished with 14 turnovers compared to the Wildkittens’ 19. Bath won the rebound battle 21-17.

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Grace Freiberger had 28 points and seven steals, Zoe Best had 12 points and eight rebounds and Cecelia Worsham scored eight for the host Indians.

CENTERVILLE — Celina finished second as a team. Ashtyn Huber led Celina with a school record 677 three-game series to finish second overall and make the all-tournament team. Emma Whistler added a 563 series and Amy Hartings a 506 series.

BLUFFTON — The Beavers (1-3) led wire-to-wire. Jameel Cosby went 10-of-20 from the field, finishing with a game-high 25 points and also led the Beavers with seven rebounds. Minster graduate Mike Ketner finished 7-of-10 from the field, posting 17 points. He also had four steals. Damian Davis contributed 15 points.
