Roundup: 3 MAC teams earn spots in regional football finals

Coldwater, Marion Local and St. Henry from the Midwest Athletic Conference advanced to high school football regional finals Saturday night.

Coldwater 42, Mechanicsburg 6

PIQUA — Reece Dellinger completed 14 of 17 pass attempts for 339 yards and had a pair of TD passes to Tanner Muhlenkamp as for Coldwater.

Muhlenkamp finished with six receptions for 142 yards. Marcel Blasingame had a TD run and a touchdown reception, Luke Sudhoff ran in for a score and Tyler Schwieterman had two catches for 96 yards and a touchdown reception also for the Cavaliers. Coldwater will play Allen East in the Region 24 championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday at a site yet to be announced.

Marion Local 34, Riverside 0

SIDNEY — Peyton Moeller had a 94-yard TD run and caught a touchdown pass from Peyton Otte, who, along with Dylan Fleck and Darren Meier, had a scoring run. Moeller finished with 146 yards rushing on 11 carries. The Flyers will play St. Henry in the Region 28 championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday in a site yet to be announced.

BATH TOWNSHIP — Owen Lefeld had 218 yards rushing and two TDs on 31 attempts. Bryce Brookhart had a TD pass to Eli Horstman, Harrison Wendel ran in for a score.

DEARBORN, Mich. — LCC graduate Biggz Johnson (17), Ottawa-Glandorf grad Ben Westrick (12), Isaac Golson Jr. (11), Zach Montes (10), Justin Koepp (10) and Hunter Bode (10) each scored in double digits for UNOH. Bode also had eight rebounds and Johnson contributed five assists.

DEARBORN, Mich. — Jad Haines had 11 points, Ronja Orpo scored nine and Kalea Kruser pulled down 10 rebounds for UNOH.

BLUFFTON — Morgan Smith just missed out on a double-double with 12 points and eight boards for the host Beavers. Brianna Gillig and Emma Saltzman, chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively. Gillig pulled down eight caroms and Saltzman finished with six.

SHELBYVILLE, IND. — Ohio Northern placed seventh of 37 teams at the NCAA III Great Lakes Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at Blue River Memorial Park.

Tessa Pitcovich qualified for the NCAA III Championships next weekend in Louisville, Ky., with a fifth place finish out of 266 runners in a career-best 22:08 over the 6,000-meter course.

Her 22:08 finish moves her up to fourth all-time in ONU history for 6,000-meters.

Pitcovich and Columbus Grove grad Taylor Ellerbrock earned All-Great Lakes region honors with top-35 finishes, as Ellerbrock crossed in 20th place in a career-low 22:43.

Northern (95-31 overall) scored 221 points. No. 10 Hope (Mich.) won the team title with 98 points.

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — Ohio Northern placed seventh of 37 teams at the NCAA III Great Lakes Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at Blue River Memorial Park.

The Polar Bears scored 277 points in the meet. No. 7-ranked John Carroll won with 62 points. Patrick Baker led the Polar Bears with a 42nd place finish in a career-low 25:55.

ADRIAN, Mich. — Ohio Northern posted an 0-3 record at the Adrian (Mich.) Duals at the Merillat Center.

The Polar Bears (0-3 overall) fell to Wisconsin-Whitewater 41-6, No. 14-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point 21-16 and No. 14-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh 30-6.

Jacob Reedled the Polar Bears with a 3-0 record with a pin and a major decision at 141 pounds to improve to 7-0 on the season.

Kleman wins twice

ANDERSON, Ind. — The Bluffton University women’s swimming team made a detour that cut over three hours off its travel time on Saturday, when their meet scheduled for Hanover was pushed north to Anderson University.

Senior Brooke Kleman (Ottawa-Glandorf) powered a Bluffton team that was just 10 points away from a second-place finish. She took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 1:14.46 and she followed that up with victory in the 100-yard IM, also etching her name in the record book with a time of 1:06.85!

The 200-yard medley relay, consisting of Kleman, MacKenzie Martin, Stacey Chirewa and Isabel Miller took 3rd in 2:25.31, while the 200-yard freestyle relay of Chirewa, Grace Branson, Flor Avilez and Alejandro Valenzuela came in 4th with a time of 2:32.79.
