Roundup: All-district soccer teams announced

The Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Awards have been announced.

In Division II, Shawnee’s Ryan Quatman (coach of the year) and Matteo Fusillo (player of the year) and St. Marys’ Patrick Larkin (assistant coach of the year) received top honors.

Area players joining Fusillo on the all-district first team were Asher Bridenstine (Kenton), Austin Miller (Shawnee), Ethan Thomas (Elida), Jeramy Hermiller (Ottawa-Glandorf), Kyle Beach (Wapakoneta), Quinn Holtzapple (St. Marys) and Ramsey Cox (Celina).

Area players on the second team included Austin Birkemeier (Ottawa-Glandorf), Brent Rader (Kenton), Connor Defibaugh (Kenton), Connor Neidemire (Shawnee), Joey Vanderhorst (St. Marys), Jonathon Flores (Elida), Sam Tenwalde (Shawnee) and Wyatt Chapman (St. Marys).

The Team Sportsmanship honor went to Celina.

In D-III boys, Bluffton’s Jude Spallinger was selected as the player of the year

Area players joining him on the first team were Andrew Hoeffel (Continental), Joe Deitering (Miller City), Kaden Basil (Bluffton) and Rhenn Armey (Continental).

Area players on the second team included Braylen Kennedy (Allen East), Carter Horstman (Ottoville), Drew Fersch (Kalida), Emerson Layman (Spencerville), Will Gallaspie (Spencerville), Will Horstman (Ottoville), Will Miller (Bath), Will Miller (Ottoville) and Wyatt Davis (Continental).

In D-I, Lima Senior’s Keegan Halliday made the second team.

In D-II girls, Shawnee’s Caroline O’Brien (co-coach of the year) and Bri Ridenour (player of the year) and Bath’s David Hammons, (assistant coach of the year) received top honors.

Area players joining Ridenour on the first team were Analei Jackson (Elida), Kendall Dieringer (St. Marys), Kennedy Jensen (Shawnee), Mia Rolfes (Celina) and Rachel Clark (Bath).

Area players on the second team included Abi Temple (Kenton), Aerial Fast (St. Marys), Alexis Hammons (Bath), Ella Jacobs (St. Marys), Gabi Wetherill (Kenton), Lily Cleaves (Shawnee), Raven Harris (Celina) and Taylor Morris (Shawnee).

In D-III girls, Cory-Rawson’s Kirsten Gast was named the assistant coach of the year.

Area players on the first team include Annika Wilker (Lima Central Catholic), Ava Giere (Coldwater), Ava Rosesngarten (Miller City), Lauryn Auchmuty (Columbus Grove), Makenna Siefker (Ottawa-Glandorf), Myka Aldrich (Ottawa-Glandorf) and Reagan Mittendorf (Bluffton).

Area players on the second team include Allie Stechschulte (Kalida), Aly Saxton (Ottoville), Bryn Tegenkamp (Continental), Brynn Reese (Cory-Rawson), Ella Marshall (Ada), Katelyn Castle (Crestview), Kenzie King (Columbus Grove) and Lily Haselman (Ottawa-Glandorf).

Wapakoneta’s Nikane Ambos made the D-I second team.

O’Brien received the Albert Laux Award which goes to someone who has 20 years or 200 wins as the head coach of a single high school.

Cory-Rawson’s Mark Schwemer received the Coach of Significane Award which recognizes character and excellence in using the soccer field to teach life lessons at the high school level and for making a positive impact within s school and community well beyond record of wins and losses.

Bluffton’s Steve Smucker and Continental’s Toby Bidlack were recognized for reaching the 100 victory milestone. Coldwater’s Paul Dingledine was honored for achieving 150 victories and Quatman and LCC’s Mike Santaguida were recognized for reaching 100 victories.

Among those receiving $250 scholarships were Ridenour and Mittendorf.

All-Star Game

The Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association (NWOSSCA) will hold the 19th annual Senior All-District Games Sunday at Liberty-Benton High School’s Turf Stadium, located at 9190 County Road 9 in Findlay.

The boys game is at 1 p.m. and the girls match is at 3 p.m.

Area players on the boys Blue Team roster include Miller City’s Joe Deitering, Ottawa-Glandorf’s Jeramy Hermiller and Austin Birkemeier, Elida’s Jonathan Flores and Bluffton’s Jude Spallinger. White Team members from the area include Kenton’s Brent Radar and Asher Birdenstine, Celina’s Ramsey Cox, Shawnee’s Connor Neidemire and Continental’s Andrew Hoeffel.

Area players on the girls Blue Team roster include Shawnee’s Taylor Morris, Kennedy Jensen, Bri Ridenour and Lily Cleaves, Coldwater’s Ava Giere and Bluffton’s Reagan Mittendorf. Celina’s Mia Rolfes is on the White Team Roster.

Mauch named

new commissioner

The ACME Baseball Congress Board of Directors has announced the addition of newly appointed Commissioner Ben Mauch.

Ben and his wife, Mikki, reside in Elida and are the parents of five young adults. In addition to being the Continuous Improvement Manager at Continental in St. Marys, Ben is an OHSAA official. His combined experiences total 13 years of baseball umpiring, 12 years of football officiating, and 10 years of basketball officiating, as well as two years of umpiring at the collegiate baseball level.

earn OAC honors

ADA — Ohio Northern seniors John Lombardo and Levi King have been named the Ohio Athletic Conference’s Goalkeeper of the Year and Midfielder of the Year, respectively, leading a list of seven Polar Bear men’s soccer players earning 2021 All-OAC honors in voting conducted by the league’s 10 head coaches.

Seniors Caiman Moore, Seth Gundlach and Bryan Kern were named second team all-conference.

Seniors Cameron Picard and Matt Studenic were third team All-OAC honorees.
