Lima area college roundup: Ohio Northern reaches OAC women’s soccer finals

ADA — Lauren Naso scored the winning goal in the second overtime as Ohio Northern defeated Capital 2-1 in a semifinal of the Ohio Athletic Conference women’s soccer tournament Thursday night.

Lauren Naso also had a goal for the Polar Bears off an assist by Alyssa Beckett. ONU will play Otterbein, a 2-0 winner against Baldwin Wallace for the tournament championship Saturday.

WESTERVILLE — Ohio Northern fell to No. 9-ranked Otterbein in a semifinal of the OAC tournament at Memorial Stadium.

The fourth-seeded Polar Bears fell to 11-7-3, while the top-seeded Cardinals improved to 14-0-4.

Ohio Northern will find out if its season has concluded or an NCAA Tournament bid is in the offering at 1:30 pm Monday during the NCAA Selection show on NCAA.com.

ADA — The Ohio Northern men have been picked to finish fifth and the women were picked to finish sixth in the 2021-22 Ohio Athletic Conference coaches polls, voted on by league coaches.

In the men’s poll, ONU received 41 points. No. 3-ranked Marietta is the favorite with 81 points and nine first place votes, No. 21 Mount Union is picked second with 73 points and the final first place vote and Heidelberg was picked third with 59 points.

On the women’s side, Ohio Northern received 45 points in the poll. No. 8-ranked John Carroll is the favorite with 81 points and nine first place votes, No. 21 Baldwin Wallace was picked second with 73 points and the final first place vote and Otterbein was selected third with 64 points.

The Polar Bear men will open their 2021-22 season Saturday and Sunday at the Case Western Reserve Tournament, while the ONU women will start with a home contest against Anderson (Ind.) on Nov. 13.

LIMA — LCC graduate Biggz Johnson and Ottawa-Glandorf grad Ben Westrick had 13 points each and Zach Montes had six assists for the University of Northwestern Ohio.
