Roundup: UNOH advances in WHAC women’s soccer tourney

LIMA — Third-seeded University of Northwestern Ohio women’s soccer team recorded a 4-0 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament victory Wednesday against sixth-seeded Concordia.

Ariana Mondiri notched the first goal of the match in the 15th minute.

The matched went almost 65 minutes before UNOH finished things off with three goals in the last 11 minutes. In the 80th minute, Alejandra Gomez Nogueras played the ball to Renata Aguirre who’s first touch was a back heal pass to Agnes Stefansdottir. Stefansdottir took the opportunity and put the ball over the keeper and into the top corner from just inside the box. After a Concordia foul, Sandra Pedersen bagged her first career goal in the 88th minute off a free kick just outside the penalty box, sending the ball around the wall and into the bottom corner. In the 90th minute, UNOH earned another free kick just a few yards deeper than the one before. Sandra Pedersen again put the ball on the spot but the keeper matched. The ball rebounded and landed right in front of Lorina Romeis, who beat the keeper for her first goal and the final 4-0 win.

The Racers’ Martina Galloni went the distance in front of goal, making two saves.

Seventh seed Lawrence Tech upset second seeded Madonna 2-1 in double overtime. The Racers (11-5-3) will play host to the Blue Devils in a semifinal at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Hanover 4, Bluffton 2

HANOVER, Ind. — Bluffton saw its season come to an end in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinal.

Bluffton finished its fall slate with a 9-8 record that included a 4-5 mark in conference play.

Dalton Taynor and Jackson Clark had Bluffton’s goals and teammates Jacob Kiger and Andrew Ireland each had an assist.

Volleyball

Lourdes 3, UNOH 0

LIMA — The Racers fell to 8-26 overall and 3-16 in the WHAC with the 25-14, 25-23, 25-18 loss.

Nevaeh Shugart had 10 kills, Casey Kingsland had 13 assists and Aubree Ricketts had 13 digs for UNOH.

BOWLING GREEN — The Northwest Ohio Girls Golf League handed out its league awards Wednesday night.

Lima Central Catholic’s Bridget Mulcahy was named the South Division Player of Year and teammate Emma Mayers received the sportsmanship award voted on by the players.

Joining Mulcahy on the South Division first team from LCC were Mayers and Carlie VanMeter. The Thunderbirds’

Leiahnni Smith and Olivia Garver made the South Division second team.
