Roundup: All-WBL soccer honors announced

Shawnee’s Matteo Fusillo (player of the year) and Ryan Quatman (coach of the year) received top honors in all-Western Buckeye League boys soccer.

Joining Fusillo on the first team were Will Miller (Bath), Ramsey Cox (Celina), Ethan Thomas (Elida), Asher Bridenstine (Kenton), Jaramy Hermiller (Ottawa-Glandorf), Austin Miller (Shawnee), Quinn Holtzapple (St. Marys), Wyatt Chapman (St. Marys), Kyle Beach (Wapakoneta), Sam Tenwalde (Shawnee) and Connor Neidemire (Shawnee).

Making the second team were Logan Smith (Celina), Jonathan Flores (Elida), Connor Defibaugh (Kenton), Nate Maag (O-G), Austin Birkimeier (O-G), Jake Fraser (Shawnee), AJ Dieringer (St. Marys), Joey Vanderhorst (St. Marys), Jack Tenwalde (Shawnee), Peyton Debell (Wapakoneta), Jake Miller (Shawnee) and Brent Rader (Kenton).

Shawnee’s Bri Ridenour (player of the year) and Caroline O’Brien (coach of the year) received top WBL honors.

Joining Ridenour on the first team were Rachel Clark (Bath), Mia Rolfes (Celina), Analei Jackson (Elida), Abi Temple (Kenton), Myka Aldrich (Ottawa-Glandorf), Makenna Siefker (Ottawa-Glandorf), Kennedy Jensen (Shawnee), Taylor Morris (Shawnee), Nikane Ambos (Wapakoneta), Kendall Dieringer (St. Marys) and Aerial Fast (St. Marys).

Making the second team were Alexis Hammons (Bath), Raven Harris (Celina), Mari Smith (Defiance), Hannah Jones (Elida), Gabi Wetherill (Kenton), Lily Haselman (O-G), Clara Beach (O-G), Lily Cleaves (Shawnee), Kaelan Swallow (Shawnee), Katie Lisi (Wapakoneta) and Ella Jacobs (St. Marys).

North Baltimore

to join NWCC

The Northwest Central Conference has announced that North Baltimore Schools will be joining the NWCC as a full member beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. North Baltimore voted to leave the Blanchard Valley Conference on Oct. 26th and has been formally granted release from the BVC after the 2022-23 school year.

“We are very excited to welcome North Baltimore to the NWCC,” conference commissioner Aaron Matthews said in a news release. “All but one school has a current scheduling agreement with North Baltimore in various sports. North Baltimore and Cory-Rawson will come in at the same time and make for a seamless transition in all forms moving forward.”

North Baltimore becomes the second BVC school to join the NWCC in 2023 as Cory-Rawson voted to leave the BVC for the NWCC during the 2020-21 school year.

gain all-HCAC honors

BLUFFTON — The Bluffton University men’s soccer team saw a school-record four of its members earn All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors.

Dalton Taynor, Maxwell Kennedy and Angel Velasco-Urbina netted second team honors, and Elijah Zimmerman received honorable mention recognition.

BLUFFTON — A pair of Bluffton University seniors have been named honorable mention All-HCAC.

Ottawa-Glandorf graduate Brooke Kleman and Paulding grad Cassidy Posey (Paulding) were recognized.

ADA — Ohio Northern is ranked No. 17 nationally in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll.

The Polar Bears received 780 points. Johns Hopkins (Md.) is the top-ranked team with 2,248 points and 89 first-place votes.
