Roundup: Elida defeats Celina in volleyball district

LEIPSIC — Elida eliminated top seed Celina 25-16, 25-23, 25-18 Tuesday night to reach the Division II volleyball district final.

Kylie Vorhees had 17 kills and four blocks, Addisyn Freeman had seven kills and Cadence Miller had 25 assists for fourth-seeded Elida.

Amelia Lutz had nine kills, Payton Bertke had 29 assists, Summer Wilson had 31 digs and Payton Bertke had three aces for Celina, which won the Western Buckeye League championship at 9-0.

Elida will play Shawnee at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Leipsic.

Shawnee 3, St. Marys 1

LEIPSIC — The Indians won 25-17; 25-18; 24-26; 25-17.

Addison Maxwell had 43 assists, four blocks and seven digs, Karrington Green had 15 kills and nine digs, Gracie Freiberger had 20 digs,

Kelly Cooper had 12 kills and 11 blocks and Kyra DeSantiago had eight digs for Shawnee.

ELIDA — The Cardinals won 25-18, 25-20, 25-22. Alyssa Niemeyer and Lily Barhorst each had five kills and Jayden Clune had 13 assists for the Wildcats. New Bremen will play New Knoxville, a 25-15, 25-21, 25-17 against Pandora-Gilboa, at 6:30 p.m. at Elida.

St. Henry 3, Marion Local 2

VAN WERT — The Redskins won 28-30, 25-14, 20-25, 25-21, 16-14. St. Henry will play the winner of Lincolnview and Fort Recovery at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Van Wert.

Olivia Winner had 14 digs, Nora Eckstein had six aces and 14 digs, Lindsey Koenig had 12 kills, Nicole Franck had 11 kills, Natalie Evers had 20 assists and 12 digs and Lydia Eifert had 22 digs for the Flyers. St. Henry will play Fort Recovery, a 25-20, 25-19, 25-15 winner against Lincolnview, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Van Wert.

BOWLING GREEN — The Wildcats won 25-19, 25-9, 25-17 and will play Leipsic at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Bowling Green High School.

BOWLING GREEN — The Vikings (22-2) won 24-26, 20-25, 25-13, 25-5, 15-10.

Marisa Hermiller had 19 kills, Kasey Brough had 17 kills and three aces, Peyton Heitmeyer had 15 kills and 32 digs, Serenity Siefer had 54 assists and 23 digs, Jocie Hermiller had 38 digs and Alaina Brown had three aces for Leipsic.

METAMORA — Clara Beach had two goals and an assist, Makenna Siefker had two scores, Myka Aldrich had a single tally,

Bri Douglass, Kaelyn Grothause and Alexa Fortman each had an assist and Emma Brinkman made a save in earning the shutout in goal.

The Titans will play Archbold, a 2-1 winner against Ottawa Hills, at 1 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen High School.

Bluffton 2, Riverdale 0

BLUFFTON — Allison Diller had both goals, Reagan Mittendorf and Makayla Schweingruber each had an assist and Julia Mehaffie made for saves to earn the shutout in goal. Bluffton will play host to Liberty-Benton, a 5-1 winner against Ashland Crestview, at 3 p.m. Saturday.

LIMA — Season tickets for the Lima Senior boys basketball season will go on sale beginning Nov. 8 in the Athletic Office. Tickets will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. or can be purchased online at limaspartannation.org/tickets.

Reserved season passes are $90, general admission season passes are $80. Processing fees will be applied to online pass purchases.

• Masks will required for entry

• No tickets will sold at the door

• All tickets must be purchased online at limaspartannation.org/tickets at a cost of $8 for adults, $6 for students and senior citizens and

$9 for reserved seats. There will be a 49 cent processor fee. Ticket sales end at 8 p.m.

• East side doors will open at 4 p.m. for triple headers and doors will close at the start of the third quarter of the varsity game.

• The reserved parking lot and west side entrance will open at 5:30 p.m.

• All students K-8 must be accompanied by an adult.

No. 17 nationally

ADA — The Ohio Northern volleyball team is ranked No. 17 nationally in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll, which was released on Tuesday.

The Polar Bears received 760 points in the poll.

ONU is down three spots after being ranked No. 14 the past three weeks.

The Polar Bears (18-5 overall, 6-1 OAC) went 1-4 last week in a tough stretch of schedule featuring games against three teams in the top six of this week’s poll in No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.), No. 4 Calvin (Mich.) and No. 6 Hope (Mich.).

Johns Hopkins (Md.) is the top-ranked team in this week’s poll with 2,248 points and 89 first-place votes.

Trinity (Texas) is second with 2,078 points while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is third with 2,016 points.

ROME, Ga. —The Ohio Northern women’s golf team moved up one spot to finish seventh out of 17 teams in the final round of the Berry (Ga.) Chik-fil-A Invitational on Tuesday at the Coosa Country Club.

The Polar Bears (52-11 overall) finished with a final round 324 after a solid first round of 332 to finish with a 656.

No. 4-ranked Methodist (N.C.) won the team title with a 293-287—580, No. 14 Berry (Ga.) was second with a 300-304—604, NCAA Division II Shorter (Ga.) was third with a 296-314—610, No. 21 Denison was fourth with a 309-315—624 and Division II Coker (Tenn.) was fifth with a 327-315—642.

ONU’s Grace Honigford tied for 24th out of 97 players with an 16-over par 80-80—160. After another slow start, Honigford shot 3-under par on her final six holes, including an eagle-2 on the 14th hole.

Also, Honigford has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for Oct. 19-25.

UNOH’s Mondiri

gets recognized

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio’s Ariana Mondiri has been selected as the NAIA Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 24.

The Racers went 2-0 last week, outscoring opponents 12-1. Mondiri was responsible for seven of those goals, scoring a hat trick in both matches, including four against UM-Dearborn.
