Temple Christian wins volleyball invitational

RAWSON — Temple Christian defeated Vanlue 25-15, 25-20 to win Saturday’s Cory-Rawson Invitaional volleyball competition.

In the championship, Cecelia Worsham had nine kills and nine digs, Kaylee Linhart had 10 assists and 12 digs and Jessica Holloway had 19 digs for Temple Christian.

Earlier, Temple Christian (14-2) defeated Cory-Rawson 25-19,25-23 and Holgate 25-13, 25-10.

Against C-R, Worsham had seven kills, Emma White had eight digs, Kaylee Linhart had seven assists, Holloway had 13 digs and Emily Bontrager had eight assists. Alli Garmatter had four kills and 14 digs, Brooke Shepherd had nine digs, Chelcie McVetta had eight assists and Averie Elchert had seven digs for Cory-Rawson.

Against Holgate, Worsham had six kills and five digs, Brianna Smith had four kills, Linhart had eight assists, Bontrager had six assists and Holloway had nine digs.

Ada lost 25-19, 25-6 to Arcadia, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22 to Vanlue and defeated Cory-Rawson 25-16, 25-22.

Against Arcadia, Autumn Andreasen had two kills and six assists, Courtney Sumner had six digs and two kills and Mariah King had two kills.

Against Vanlue, Sumner had 13 digs and three kills, Josie Phillips had 10 digs, Andreasen had 11 assists, eight digs and three kills, Jenna Bassitt had seven digs and five aces and King had seven kills.

Against Cory-Rawson, Josie Phillips had eight digs, Lexi Poling had seven digs, Sumner had six digs, four kills and three aces, Andreasen had 11 assists and six digs, Lily Baumgartner had four kills and Bassitt had three aces.

Hardin Northern 3, Perry 2

The Polar Bears won 13-25, 15-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-12. Eris McCoy had four aces and 18 kills, Cadence Coy had nine kills, Kennedy Hall had 33 assists, Brenna Flowers had 18 digs and Ava Hopson had 13 digs for Hardin Northern. Bryce James had 21 digs, Mary Hoersten had 20 kills, five blocks and 15 assists and Lexenna Lee had 14 kills and 17 assists for Perry.

Fort Recovery 3, Shawnee 1

Fort Recovery won 22-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-10. Addie Maxwell had 19 assists, Karrington Green had 10 kills and 10 digs, Kelly Cooper had four kills and six blocks, Grace Freiberger had 19 digs and three aces and Paige Maxwell had 16 digs for Shawnee.

Minster Invitational

MINSTER — The host Wildcats fell 30-28, 25-21 to North Central and 25-23, 25-22 to Tri-Village.

Jayden Clune had six aces and 22 assists, Lily Barhorst had 12 kills and 25 digs, Alyssa Niemeyer had 11 kills and 18 digs and Lyndi Hemmelgarn had 28 digs for Minster.

Bluffton fell 25-15, 25-14 to West Liberty and 25-14, 27-25 to Archbishop Alter and defeated Mechanicsburg 26-24, 25-20.

Against West Liberty, Kylie Stackhouse had six kills, Ayla Grandey had five kills, Skyler Scoles had 17 assists, Sophie Bricker had eight digs and Kylie Monday had five digs.

Against Archbishop Alter, Stackhouse had nine kills, Scoles had 14 assists, Monday had seven digs and Bricker had five digs.

Against Mechanicsburg, Stackhouse had 10 kills, Scoles had five kills and 16 assists, Bricker had 15 digs and Haelyn Bischoff had 11 digs.

Spencerville 3,

Upper Scioto Valley 0

The Bearcats (8-5) won 25-20, 25-13, 25-10. Individual stats were not reported by deadline.

New Bremen 3,

Fort Loramie 0

NEW BREMEN — The Cardinals won 25-19, 25-20, 25-23. New Bremen’s individual stats were not reported.

MAC tournament

MINSTER — Minster won the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament after finishing 9-0 in conference dual matches to secure the overall conference championship.

Louis Magoto (79), Nathan Beair (83), Mitchell Bornhorst (83) and Ray Purdy (86) teamed up for Minster’s winning score of 331 at par 72 Arrowhead. Coldwater and Delphos St. John’s each finished at 353 with Coldwater having the lower fifth-player score. Parkway (356), Marion Local (366), St. Henry (373) and Versailles (381) were fourth through seventh. Fort Recovery had the lower fifth-player score after tying New Bremen at 386. New Knoxville (471) rounded out the team scoring.

Conference player of the year Jack Gerker from Delphos St. John’s was medalist with a 73. Marion Local’s Marcus Rethman (77), Coldwater’s Hayden Beougher (80), Parkway’s Caden Slusher (81), St. Henry’s Sam Koesters (87), Fort Recovery’s Cole Muhlenkamp (92), New Bremen’s Ben Wells (94) and New Knoxville’s Jay Waterman (104) had the low rounds for their schools.

Gerker, Magoto, Beougher, Koesters, Collin Feathers from St. John’s, Rethman, Parkway’s Roman Leszinske, Bornhorst, Marion Local’s Cole Brunswick, Versailles’ Justin Heitkamp, Slusher and Beair earned spots on the all-MAC first team.

Tinora Invitational

DEFIANCE — Kalida (328) finished third behind team champ Kings (312) and Defiance (313) at par 71 Eagle Rock. Paulding (376) was sixth among the 10 schools that posted team scores. Kalida’s Ryan Klausing finished second individually with a 75. Kyle Dominique (80) had Paulding’s low round.

MAC tournament

Coldwater followed up going 8-0 in conference dual matches with the MAC tournament championship at the par 72 Mercer County Elks.

Medalist Jordan Hemmelgarn (78), Natalie Ashbaugh (91), Grace Buschur (95) and Laney Finke (96) combined for the winnng team score of 360 followed by Versailles (368), Minster (392), St. Henry (397), Marion Local (431), Fort Recovery (435), New Bremen (442) and Parkway (465).

Player of the year Jalyn Bruns (84) from Fort Recovery, St. Henry’s Dana Rindler (89), Minster’s Layne Voisard (91), Marion Local’s Aliyah Arling (102), New Bremen’s Allison Hays (105) and Parkway’s Madison Louth (109) had the low rounds for their schools.

Bruns, Voisard, Hemmelgarn, Rindler, Versailles’ Ella Porter and Lindsay Cotner, Minster’s Ashley Meyer and Katie Heitkamp , Buschur and Arling earned spots on the all-conference first team.

Jordan Schroeder and Carson Fuka each had a goal, Austin Birkemeier and Nate Maag each had an assist and Dylan Birkemeier made three saves to earn the shutout in goal.

Bri Ridenour had two goals and a pair of assists, Riley Smith, Zoe Best and Natalya Booher each had a single tally, Kennedy Jensen had an assist and Kaelan Swallow made three saves to earn the shutout in goal.

RAWSON — Paige McVetta had three goals, Brynn Reese had a goal and an assist, Lanie Kempf and Evelyn Waltz each had a single tally and Karissa Welte got the shutout in goal. Spencerville’s Jaelynn Boop nade 29 saves.

DELPHOS — Alyvia Lindeman had four goals, Kyrstin Moore had two scores, Kyra Foust had a single tally, Haylee Bayman had an assist and Lillian Baughn got the shutout in goal. Alli Fronzaglia had 10 saves and Ava Sheeter had six saves for Lima Senior.

Yellow Jacket Invitational

SIDNEY — Emalea Collins finished 16th (24:55.5) in the girls race to lead Lima Senior, which did not have a team score. Gavin Lyons was 58th (23:29.5) in the boys race to lead Lima Senior, which did not have a team score.

Tour De Sewer Invitational

VERSAILLES — Botkins (49) was the boys team champ with Marion Local (fifth, 182) and St. Marys (sixth, 182) also finishing in the top 10 with 13 schools posting team scores.

Botkins’ Keaton Schnippel (third, 17:09.5) and Parker Schnippel (seventh, 17:19.1), Fort Recovery’s Trevor Heitkamp (fourth, 17:13.9) and Marion Local’s Troy Stucke (sixth, 17:16.5) finished in the top 10 behind race winner Kellen Reichert (16:41.9) from Jackson Center.

In the girls competition, Fort Recovery (81) finished second behind Waynesville (32) with Botkins (98) fourth, St. Marys (190) sixth, Marion Local (204) seven and Coldwater (209) eighth among the 10 schools to post team scores.

Botkins’ Brittany Arnold (19:30.7) was the race winner with Coldwater’s Haley Alig (fifth, 20:30.8), Botkins’ Alaina Mann (sixth, 20:50.0) and St. Marys’ Maria Jutte (ninth, 21:10.4) also finishing in the top 10.

Van Buren

Black Knight Invitational

FINDLAY — Miller City’s Andrea Pfau (ninth, 20:29.29), Leipsic’s Lola Wensink (24th, 22:24.67), Pandora-Gilboa’s Taelor Miller (50th, 24:54.04), Hardin Northern’s Abbi Diller (86th, 29:04.94) and Cory-Rawson’s Mattie Huber (102, 34:17.39), and led their schools in the Black Division race won by Carey’s Sarah Reinhart (19:02.38). No area team had a team score.

Hardin Northern (186) was ninth in the boys standings behind team champ Ottawa Hills (31). Aiden Gatchel (18:33.57) was 12th and Zeb Wilson (18:48.61) was 17th for Hardin Northern. Cory-Rawson’s Grant Welte (19:46.27) was 36th and Leipsic’s Roman DeLaRosa (20:12.67) was 47th to lead their schools, which did not have team scores.

Findlay’s Mulcahy

among top five

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The University of Findlay finished in second place Saturday at the Gilda’s Club Laker Fall Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State University. The Oilers finished the 36-hole, one day event with a total of 611 (304, 307). They found themselves eleven strokes behind the leader, Grand Valley State University at the conclusion of play Saturday.

Leading the Oilers was freshman Mary Kelly Mulcahy, a Lima Central Catholic graduate. Mulcahy finished seven-over par, 151 (73, 78) to tie for third and earn all-tournament honors.

Senior and St. Marys grad Jill Schmitmeyer posted a nine-over par score (153) to tie for sixth place. Schmitmeyer started with a 76 (+4) in the opening round and closed with a 77 (+5).

Football

Ohio Northern 56, Otterbein 7

ADA —Ohio Northern scored in all three phases of the game and rolled to a 56-7 Ohio Athletic Conference football victory Saturday at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 3-1 overall and are 2-1 in the OAC, while the Cardinals fall to 0-4, 0-3.

Senior Brody Hahn (Louisville) completed 21-of-31 passes for 312 yards and five touchdowns and ran six times for 23 yards to lead the ONU offense.

Senior Austin Eick (Rossford) caught three of those TD passes, scoring on receptions of 71, 13 and 12 yards. He finished the day with eight catches for 158 yards.

Junior Jack DiMario (Dayton/Alter) caught six passes for 62 yards and junior Jette Morgan (Wooster) caught three passes for 74 yards and two scores.

“We took advantage of some big plays,” ONU head coach Dean Paul said. “There were several momentum swings that went in our favor. It was a solid, total team effort. We got many guys in the game and had a good all-around day.”

Bryce Hall was 19-of-31 passing for 212 yards and a score for OU.

Northern scored on its first four possessions to grab a 28-0 lead.

Morgan hauled in a 20-yard pass from Hahn with 3:42 gone in the contest to make it 7-0.

Senior All-American Brock Martin (Attica/Seneca East) scored on a 26-yard run with 6:50 left in the quarter and it was 14-0.

Hahn then found Eick on TDs of 71 and 13 yards as Northern led 28-0 with 5:40 left in the half.

Northern took a 28-7 lead into intermission.

Otterbein lined up for a 22-yard field goal, but junior Jake Bever (Ashland) broke through the line and blocked the kick.

Junior Nick Tangeman (Maria Stein/Marion Local) scooped up the ball and raced 94 yards for a touchdown and 35-7 Polar Bear lead six minutes into the second half.

Hahn then hit Eick on a 12-yard touchdown pass and it was 42-7 ONU after three quarters of play.

Morgan caught a 39-yard TD pass from Hahn and Northern led 49-7 with 11:19 left.

Senior defensive end Justin Taylor (Lake Park, Fla/Pam Beach Gardens) got into the action when he batted a pass up in the air, caught the ball and rumbled in from 40 yards out with 4:52 to play to cap the scoring

Freshman dalton Tjong (Cumming, Ga./West Forsyth) had a career-high nine tackles to lead the Ohio Northern defense.

Ohio Northern out-gained OU in total offense 425-422.

The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday afternoon with a 1:30 pm contest at home with Marietta on Homecoming Weekend at ONU.
