Roundup: Shawnee wins on Kimmet field goal

DEFIANCE — Tyler Kimmet connected on a 34-yard field goal as time expired to give Shawnee a 10-7 Western Buckeye League victory Friday night against Defiance.

Kimmet also made an extra point after Luke Cowan scored on a 7-yard pass play from Tyler Windau, who completed 13 of 26 throws for 160 yards. The Indians are now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the WBL.

Crestview 14

HARROD — Jacob Hershberger ran 13 times for 106 yards and a TD and completed 14 of 20 pass attempts for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Garrett Newland had one of the TD receptions and Chase Miller had the other. Jack Hoel ran 19 times for 107 yards and a touchdown also for the Mustangs.

Nick Helt and JJ Ward each had TD runs for the Knights.

Ottawa-Glandorf 35,

St. Marys 16

OTTAWA — Landen Jordan had three TD runs, Colin White had five catches for 134 yards to go with a TD reception from Landen Jordan and Ian Fenbert had a touchdown run for O-G. Gavin Reineke had TD passes to Tanner Howell and Brayden Sullivan for St. Marys.

Pandora-Gilboa 49, Arcadia 14

ARCADIA — Dillan Krohn, who had a touchdown run, threw a pair of TD passes to Aidan Morris and another to Colin Harris. Morris finished with seven receptions for 133 yards. Weston Macke had 16 carries for 109 yards and a pair of TDs and Derek Maag had a touchdown run also for P-G.

Coldwater 28,

New Bremen 14

COLDWATER — Reece Dellinger completed 12 of 16 pass attempts for 214 yards and two touchdowns for the 2020 Division VI state champs against last year’s D-VII state champions.

Jesse Meyer had four receptions for 96 yards and a TD, Tyler Schwieterman had a touchdown catch and Isaac Fullenkamp and Luke Sudhoff each had a scoring run also for the Cavaliers. David Homan had 25 carries for 140 yards and a touchdown and Branxton Krauss had a TD for the Cardinals.

ANNA — Riley Hiser rushed 25 times for 112 yards for Fort Recovery.

Leipsic 49, Ada 14

ADA — Dillan Niese completed 10 of 12 pass attempts for 198 yards, had TD throws to Trent Siefer and Quin Schroeder and ran for another touchdown. Fabian Pena had a pair of TD runs and Hayden Hiegel and Michael Jimenez each had a touchdown carry also for the Vikings.

Kadin Phipps rushed 27 times for 96 yards and had a TD throw to Cayden Murphy and Casen Jones had a touchdown run for Ada.

Columbus Grove 31, Delphos Jefferson 7

DELPHOS — Colin Metzger rushed 16 times for 132 yards and a trio of TDs. Braylon Baxter returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and Rece Verhoff connected on a 42 yard field goal attempt also for Grove. Colin Bailey had 20 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown for Jefferson.

Versailles 49, Parkway 14

VERSAILLES — Eddie Nichols rushed 10 times for 90 yards and a touchdown and Fletcher Smith had a TD run for Parkway.

Celina 21, Kenton 20

CELINA — Nick Adams threw a touchdown pass to Aidan Song and ran for another score and Jaden King had a TD run for the host Bulldogs. Korin Johnston completed 27 of 40 pass attempts for 248 yards and three TDs for the Wildcats. Tyson Lawrence had nine receptions for 100 yards and two TDs and Jarrett Jolliff had a touchdown reception also for Kenton.

Marion Local 20, St. Henry 7

ST. HENRY — Kyle Otte and Peyton Otte each had a touchdown run and Drew Louse scored on an 80-yard kickoff return for the visiting Flyers. Owen Lefeld had 108 yards rushing on 23 carries and a TD for St. Henry.

Upper Scioto Valley 26, Waynesfield-Goshen 7

WAYNESFIELD — Jackson Rohrs had 17 carries for 131 yards and a TD to go with a touchdown catch from Kadyn Hurley, Connor Sanders had 96 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and Alex Sanders scored on an interception for USV. Drew Breitigam had a TD run for W-G.

Hardin Northern 45, Ridgedale 12

MORRAL — Nolan Hopson had a trio of TD runs, Colby Curtis had a pair of touchdown carries and Nevin Robson had a TD run, a field goal and converted six extra points for Hardin Northern.

Van Wert 55, Wapakoneta 45

VAN WERT — Aidan Pratt completed 22 of 28 pass attempts for 308 yards and four TDS and ran 18 times for 120 yards and another score for Van Wert. Garett Gunter caught two of Pratt’s TD throws and Brylen Parker, who had a pair of TD runs, caught the other. Trey Laudick scored on a 97-yard kickoff return also for the Cougars. Wapak’s scoring and individual stats were not reported.

Elgin 68, Perry 62

MARION — Perry’s Ryan Yingst had 22 carries for 279 and two TDs and completed 13 of 20 pass attempts for 222 yards and five touchdowns. Isaiah Sanders caught two of TD throws and Joey Hoersten, who had six receptions for 101 yards, Terry Riley, who returned a kickoff 76 yards for a score, and Jason Thomas caught the others. Ty’re Sibert also had a TD run for the Commodores.

OTTAWA — Kalida had the low team score of 158 against Ottoville (162) and Fort Jennings (208) in a matchup of Putnam County League members at par 36 Moose Landing.

Co-medalist Justin Siebeneck (37), Kayla Nartker (39), Ryan Klausing (41) and Connor Nartker (41) combined for the low team total. Ottoville’s Carter Schnipke (37) was the other co-medalist and Gavin Schimmoeller and Nick Trentman each shot 46 to tie for Fort Jennings’ low round.

KALIDA — Livia Recker and Lauren Schulte each had a goal. Kassidy Hipsher got the shutout in goal and Fort Jennings counterpart Maggie Pothast had 13 saves.

ADA — Ohio Northern opened the home portion of its 2021 with a victory against Concordia (Michigan) at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears (1-1-1 overall) got goals from Seth Gundlach, Nate Gottron, Trevor Tabb, Bryan Kern and Kellan Minch each had a goal. Kern, Levi King, Tanner Locke and Aaron Shelton each had an assist and Josh Ellis made a save to earn the shutout in goal.

Women’s soccer

Ohio Northern 1, Mt. St. Joseph 0

ADA — The 18th-ranked Ohio Northern women’s soccer team got its second win of the season, shutting out Mt. St. Joseph at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears (2-1-1 overall) scored early in the first half with freshman Jess Gast (Perrysburg) finding the back of the net on an assist from sophomore Jill Roberts (Bellbrook/Carroll).

The goal marked Gast’s first of her collegiate career, and Roberts collected her second assist of the year, giving her a team-high six points in 2021.

The loss dropped Mt. St. Joseph to 1-3-0 on the season.

Volleyball

Bluffton goes 1-1

ERIE, Pa. – The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Erie, Penn., for a weekend tournament at Penn State-Behrend on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021. Baldwin Wallace took down the Beavers in straight sets before Bluffton dropped the host Lions in five sets.

Baldwin Wallace opened the match with a slim 25-22 victory in the lidlifter before a convincing 25-15 win in set two. The Yellow Jackets closed out the sweep wit a 25-20 win in the clincher.

Junior Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) paced the Beavers with eight kills and a .312 hitting percentage. Freshman Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) and senior Cassidy Posey (Paulding) followed with six and five kills, respectively.

Junior Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay) handed out 15 helpers against the Jackets. Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) and Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) both notched double-digit digs with 20 and 13, respectively.

With Penn State-Behrend and Bluffton knotted at one set apiece, Bluffton opened an 18-11 lead over the hosts. It wasn’t enough as the Beavers dropped set three 25-22. A 25-21 victory in the fourth set cleared the way for a clincher that saw Bluffton squeak out a 15-13 win in the tiebreaker!

Alysha Like (McComb) and Posey led the victors with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Barnett followed with nine winners, while Maddie White (Ashland) and Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) chipped in with eight and seven kills.

White doled out a team-best 24 assists and Price was in double figures again with 14 assists. Kleman swept up the floor with 26 digs. Also in double digits for pickups were White with 16 and Kia Rainey (Adrian, MI/Madison) with 15. Like and White stuffed the Lions with seven and six blocks, respectively. Armentrout added four block assists for the visitors.

Bluffton will be back on the court in less than 12 hours when the Beavers take on Fredonia at 11 a.m. before wrapping up the weekend with John Carroll from the Ohio Athletic Conference at 1 p.m.
