KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Wapakoneta softball team continued its swing through Florida with an 18-0 victory in three innings Friday against Gateway High School.
Maddi Doseck had two hits, including a double, and three RBI, Corrin Wilder had two hits, including a double, and two RBI, Tianna Thompson had two hits and two RBI and Rylie Jeanneret had a pair of hits and an RBI.
Jeanneret was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out four in three innings.

ROCKFORD — Parkway used four two-run innings to secure the victory.
Claire Langenkamp had three hits, including a double, and three RBI, Danielle Huff had two hits, including a double, and two RBI and Gracyn Temple had a hit and two RBI for Parkway.
Kaylee Grant had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI, Carmi Winegardner had two hits, including a double, and Autumn Steele had a pair of hits for Shawnee.

Excellence Award
CLEVELAND — Elida Schools has been selected as a winner of Pioneer Athletics’ 2020 Fields of Excellence Award.
Elida Schools will receive a scholarship, certificate of recognition and a banner that can be displayed.
Pioneer may also use the picture of winning field in its publications and annual calendar.
The program honors outstanding athletic fields and the field crews who maintain them.
Colleges, universities, high schools and parks & recreation departments from across the United States submitted photographs, letters of recommendation and application forms describing the institutions detailed athletic field maintenance program. A judging process yielded 73 winners from a pool of applicants, with two
athletic fields randomly selected as scholarship winners.

ONU 35, Wilmington 22
ADA — Ohio Northern built a 35-3 third quarter lead and held off a furious rally to post a 35-22 football victory over Wilmington on chilly Friday night at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 3-0 overall and are 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers fall to 2-2, 2-2.
Senior Brody Hahn (Louisville) ran for a 42-yard touchdown and threw for four more scores as ONU built a 35-3 lead with 5:23 left in the third quarter.
Wilmington scored on three of its next four possessions to pull within 35-22 with 3:45 left in the game.
WC then recovered an onside kick, but the ONU defense for a turnover on downs with 2:28 to go and an interception by senior A.J. Marks (Guysville/Alexander) with 1:36 left iced the game for ONU.
Hahn got Ohio Northern on the board with he scrambled in from 42 yards out with 4:03 left in the first period to make it 7-0.
He then hit senior Chase Rose (Kenton/Upper Scioto Valley) on TD passes of 40 and 16 yards sandwiched around a Quaker field goal and ONU led 21-3 at intermission.
Hahn made it 28-3 when he found freshman Noah Miller (Coldwater) on a 6-yard TD pass with 6:42 left in the third.
An 18-yard pass from Hahn to junior Austin Eick (Rossford) just 1:19 later extended the lead to 35-3.
Northern out-gained Wilmington 406-345 in total offense despite the visitors holding a 95-60 advantage in offensive plays.
Sophomore Nichal Johnson (College Park, Ga./Northgate) had 10 tackles and two sacks and freshman Peyton Wilson (Lima/Shawnee) had 10 tackles to lead an ONU defense that posted seven sacks and 12 TFL in the contest.
Hahn finished the night 14-of-23 passing for 245 yards and 4 TDs and he ran 11 times for 72 yards and a score.
Junior All-American Brock Martin (Attica/Seneca East) ran 18 times for 71 yards. Eick caught six passes for 125 yards and a TD and Rose had four catches for 95 yards and two scores.
The Polar Bears will wrap up their abbreviated 2020-21 regular season with a road game at Heidelberg on Friday in a battle of league unbeatens with the OAC West Division title on the line.
Volleyball
ONU wins twice
ADA — No. 24-ranked Ohio Northern ran its win streak to eight matches with a pair of victories against Capital at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears improve to 12-2 overall and are 12-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital falls to 0-16 overall and in OAC.
Northern won the opening match 25-6, 25-10, 25-9 and second encounter 25-22, 23-25, 25-10, 25-14.
Ada graduate Melina Woods hit .528 with 26 kills with one error on 48 attempts in the two matches to lead ONU.

COLUMBUS — Ohio Northern to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference with the victory at Capital indoors at the Scarborough East Tennis Center.
Ola Latala won by default at No.1 singles joined with Lima Central Catholic graduate Olivia Kesner to win at No. 1 doubles 8-4. Kesner also won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
Ada grad Mackenzie Wills won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, Katie Curry won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Jordan Dodson won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Wills and Jeorgia Templin won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and Curry and Regan Landis won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

LIMA — Ohio Northern (2-0 overall, 2-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) celebrated a victory against Capital at the Westwood Tennis Center.
Andrew Cochran and Ada grad Zach Beaschler led ONU by accounting for three victories each.
Cochran won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Beascher won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and the duo combined to win 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Kavya Desai and Maxim Smith also won three times between them. Desai won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, Smith won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and they combined to win 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Joji Imatomi won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and Vinh Thai and Matt Garcia won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

With two matches left in the regular season, the University of Northwestern Ohio is ranked eighth in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The Racers finish the regular season at Cornerstone on Monday and at Madonna on Wednesday.

UNOH jumped two spots to No. 20 in the final NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll of the regular season. Winners of five in-a-row, the Racers look to continue their march today as they begin the WHAC tournament with a 1 p.m. home match against Indiana Tech.

Sadler Invitational
LIBERTY, Ind. – The Bluffton University men’s golf team traveled to Indiana for day one of the Randal Sadler Invitational at Harbor Links Golf Course. Bluffton stands in sixth place after shooting a 328 Friday.
Senior Takoda Pratt (Shelby) led the Beavers with an impressive 79. Nathan Eberle (Grove City) and Nick Offenburger (Lexington) were just off the pace at 82 and 83, respectively. Sophomore Justin Metsker (Burbank/Wickliffe) rounded out the scorers for Bluffton with an 84 on Saturday.
The Beavers will tee it up for round two at approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 3.

Bluffton swept
BLUFFTON — The Bluffton University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Case Reserve on Friday. The Spartans rolled to a 14-0 mercy-rule victory in game one and followed that up with an 8-3 win in game two.
The lone Bluffton hit in game one was a Bobbi Adams (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes) rocket down the right field line in the fourth inning. The Spartans scored in only three innings, but they made them count with two in the first, five in the third and a seven-spot in the fifth frame. Leadoff hitter Sarah Miller showed why she came into the game with a .407 batting average and five dingers as she lasered the second pitch of the game over the fence in center field and cleared the bases with her bomb to right in the fifth inning.
Katie McCord (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) fell to 1-4 after surrendering 14 runs, seven earned, on 13 hits in five innings of work. She walked three and struck out one batter.
After six more scoreless frames for the Beavers to start game two, the Bluffton bats found some life in the seventh. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Adams and senior Taylor Steinke (Findlay) plated Lily Tate (Mount Gilead/Northmor), pinch runner Sammi Urban (Troy/Miami East) and Sydney Bowen (Convoy/Crestview), but it was not enough as the visitors capped the sweep with an 8-3 victory in game two.
Sophomore Erin Norman (Pleasant Hill/Newton) slipped to 1-3 after allowing four runs on five hits in her six-inning start. She walked three and struck out one Spartan. Steinke drove in two runs and senior Riley Langstaff (Findlay) went 2-of-4 for the home team.
Bluffton will have an early wakeup call on Saturday, April 3, when they travel four and a half hours to Terre Haute, Ind., for a pair of conference games at Rose-Hulman. The first contest is slated for 1 p.m.
ONU drops two
ADA — Junior Chayten Overholt (Van Wert/Lincolnview) tallied five hits, but Ohio Northern dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Mount Union by scores of 6-1 and 15-7 at Wander Field on Friday evening.
Overholt went 2-for-3 with a triple in the opener and followed that with a 3-for-5 effort in the nightcap to lead the Polar Bears (3-10, 2-7 OAC).
The Purple Raiders (9-3, 7-3 OAC) took advantage of four ONU errors in the first game, scoring single runs in six different innings, taking advantage of an 8.1-inning start by Thomas Gallant.
For the Polar Bears, senior Nate Bye (Thorntown, Ind./Western Boone) conceded three runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk over 6.0 frames, striking out four.
In Game 2, the Raiders jumped out to a 13-1 lead before a five-run Polar Bear inning in the sixth brought the game back within reach. Mount Union forced Ohio Northern to leave the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings to stifle the comeback effort.
Senior Will Davis (Upper Arlington/Bishop Watterson) joined Overholt with a three-hit game, finishing the night 3-for-4 with a double, walk and two RBIs.
Junior Corey McMann (Flower Mound, Texas/Liberty Christian), senior Krue Thwaits (Greenville/Milton Union) and senior Michael Rocco (Davenport, Fla./Zionsville [Ind.]) chipped in two hits apiece.
The Polar Bears and Raiders will wrap up their 4-game series with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m. in Alliance.
Softball
ONU loses two
ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern softball team fell 5-4, and 10-2 in six innings Friday afternoon at No. 20-ranked Mount Union at 23rd Street Softball Field.
Sophomore Annika Murray (Hilliard/Bradley) and senior Abby Davis (New Palestine, Ind.) led the ONU offense with three hits each on the day.
In game one the Polar Bears fell 5-4.
Trailing 2-0 in the second inning senior Alicia Swierz (Deerfield/Southeast) hit a 2-RBI single to tie the game at two apiece.
After a Mount Union run in the third inning, back-to-back Polar Bear singles by Davis and Murray gave ONU the lead 4-3 in the top of the fourth.
The Purple Raiders used a two-run sixth inning and then shut down Northern in the top of the seventh to clinch the victory.
In game two, the Purple Raiders used a six-run third inning to take a 7-1 lead and never looked back.
The game ended in six innings due to the NCAA’s 8-run rule.
Northern totaled 13 hits on the day.
The two teams will continue their 4-game series with a 1 pm double header at home against Mount Union on Saturday.
