ONU, Bluffton players receive national honors

A pair of area players have been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Bluffton University freshman Montez Archer Jr. was named to the team for the second consecutive week.

For the second straight game, Archer equaled the Bluffton school record with three interceptions in Bluffton’s 35-27 win against Anderson! He also led the Beaver defense with nine solo tackles among his 12 stops. His six pickoffs through three games are two away from the school single-season record of eight. Archer also returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown.

Archer also received the double honor of being named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference defensive and special teams player of the week.

Ohio Northern sophomore defensive end Josh Bever was also named to the team.

Bever had eight tackles (four solo) as the Polar Bears opened their season with a 17-7 victory against Otterbein on Friday night at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

He also had two tackles for loss and a sack. The sack came on Otterbein’s final drive and forced the Cardinals to use their final timeout with 52 seconds left.
