Roundup: Ohio Northern falls to Marietta in OAC title game

MARIETTA — Ohio Northern fell at No. 6-ranked Marietta 100-49 in the championship game of the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday night at at Ban Johnson Fieldhouse.

The fifth-seeded Polar Bears end their season at 5-7, while the top-seeded Pioneers end their season at 12-1.

The game marked the second time in the past four seasons that Ohio Northern reached the finals of the OAC Tournamernt.

Sophomores Grant Heileman and Landen Long were named to the All-OAC Tournament Team.

Long scored 10 points and Heileman scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead ONU.

Division I

PERRYSBURG — Lima Senior’s Aaron Bowsher concluded his season with a 5-3 fifth-place match victory against Normandy’s Nathan Frost.

Division II

NORWALK — St. Marys’ Tyler Hisey (106 pounds) and Celina’s Landon Engle (126) each finished second in their respective weight classes.

Joining them at state with a top-four finish will be Wapakoneta’s Colin Mellott, who was third at 113 pounds. The top four in each weight class advances to state.

St. Marys’ Trevor Hisey (113) and Stashu Patterson (182) and Elida’s Conner Douglass (138) each finished fifth and Ottawa-Glandorf’s Angel Rosales (138) was sixth.

Buckeye (148.5 points) was the team champ. St. Marys (67) was 11th, Wapak (35.5) was 15th, Celina (29) was 19th, Elida (14) tied Orange for 25th, O-G (10) tied Defiance and Mansfield Senior for 30th and Van Wert (2) tied Maumee for 38th.
