Roundup: Anderson defeats Bluffton in HCAC women’s basketball tourney

BLUFFTON — The Beavers fell 62-60 to Anderson in the quarterfinals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament Wednesday.

Brianna Gillig (20), Maddie Fitzpatrick (12), Sammy Shardo (10) and Emma Saltzman (10) each scored in double digits for Bluffton (14-6). Gillig had 14 rebounds and Saltman had seven rebounds.

Men’s basketball

Franklin 55, Bluffton 51

BLUFFTON — The Beavers fell in the quarterfinals of the HCAC tournament. Jameel Cosby had 13 points and Dezman Brown scored 10 for Bluffton (11-5).

Softball

UNOH 9, Spring Arbor 1

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Eleya Montroy had three hits, including a home run and double, and six RBI in the University of Northwestern Ohio’s season opener. Zoe Johnson and Lauren Massolini each had two hits and teammate Aubrey Brunst threw six innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out six in earning the win.

SYLVANIA — Ariana Mondiri had the match’s only goal on an assist by Jeweleen Reuille in the Racers’ season opener. Ashley Wilson made six saves in securing the shutout in goal.
