NWC announces football plan

The Northwest Conference is taking a different approach to crowning a football champion with a tournament type style to accommodate the six-game season.

The NWC split into two divisions and in the first three weeks they will play division games. Beginning in week four, the teams will participate in a tournament style of play as teams will be broken into brackets. Records will determine seeds and head to head results and drawings will be held to break any ties in the seeding.

The winner of game 7 will be the NWC champion, regardless of division record.

Crestview, Delphos Jefferson, Paulding and Spencerville will be in the West, and Ada, Allen East, Bluffton and Columbus Grove will be in the West.

“We decided to play divisions and have a tournament because we felt it is the best way to determine a true NWC champion,” Derryberry said. ” Our league size and geographic locations of the schools make this possible. We will do our best to make sure everyone plays three home games & three away games in weeks 1-6. If schools can reach an agreement, then we will use a coin flip to determine the host school (this will likely happen week 5, and game 7).”

Derryberry added that the higher seeded school is not guaranteed an opportunity to host and athletic directors will need to communicate, either early Saturday morning or late Friday night, to determine host schools in weeks 5 and 6.
