NWC kicks off conference play

The Northwest Conference kicks off its season this Friday with a host of interesting matchups.

Crestview (1-2) and Columbus Grove (2-0) square off in an early meeting that features the two teams that shared the NWC crown last year. Grove has won its first two games in convincing fashion with victories over Wayne Trace (65-39) and Ottoville (50-36). The defending state champion have dropped games to Van Wert and Miller City but got back to its winning ways with a 63-56 win over Parkway.

In other NWC matchups, Ada (1-3) travels to Bluffton (2-0), Delphos Jefferson (1-2) faces Allen East (3-1) and Paulding (1-3) heads south to face Spencerville (1-3).

NWCC

Perry (3-1, 1-0) faces an early conference test when they play host to Elgin (2-0). Perry lost its season opener to Delphos St. John’s but has since won three straight including an impressive 81-55 victory over Waynesfield-Goshen.

In other NWCC, action Temple Christian (0-3) will face Waynesfield-Goshen, Upper Scioto Valley takes on Hardni County rival Ridgmont and Riverside faces Lehman Catholic,

MAC

Delphos St. John’s (3-0) opens Midwest Athletic Conference play with a trip to Minster (4-0) to face the unbeaten Wildcats. The Blue Jays have come out this year with three straight wins that include victories over Perry, Upper Scioto Valley and a two-point thriller over Elida.

TRAC

Lima Senior has looked impressive in the early season and on Tuesday the Spartans posted a 10-3-62 win over Oregon Clay. The Spartans will face a big challenge this Friday when they face St. Francis de Sales (3-0, 1-0). The Knights’ lone TRAC win also came against Oregon Clay and St. Francis de Sales downed them 43-39.

INDEPENDENT

Lima Central Catholic has gotten off to a fast start with a 3-1 mark and are coming off a 78-67 win over Western Conference foes Bath. The Thunderbirds will have its hands full against Ottawa-Glandorf Saturday in what has developed into one of the best rivalries in Northwest Ohio.

Ottawa-Glandorf have won the last two meetings between these two teams.
